Default Checking Out A Used Transmission Before You Buy

I am going to look at a used Ls hydro Transmission for 350 on Craigslist tomorrow. The guy I'm buying it from says it only has 70k on it and he got it out of his wrecked Integra. I was wondering what i can look for when i go to purchase it. The transmission is out of the car so i cant test drive it.
I know you can see if the input shaft move at all. You can shift through all the gears and see how the input shaft moves through all of them.

What else can I do to test it?
If I cracked open the case how can i tell if there's any damage?

See if the mainshaft has play, check to make sure it shifts into all gears and spins freely.

Cracking the case just look for obvious damage, about all you can do without tearing the stacks down (for someone who doesn't work with transmissions daily).

How easily should the main shaft spin, should it have some resistances?

You should be able to turn it by hand without breaking a sweat. There will be some resistance due to constant mesh gears.

I bought the transmission because they guy had the case open and showed me all the gears and they looked good. There was one small problem i did not see till i got i home and started to clean it. The problem i found was that where the extension rod connects to the transmission had JB Weld on it. Will this hold? I don't know how much stress is put on to the extension rod.
