is your exhaust louder insidethe car than outside??
97 gsr 2 door
4-1 header , carsound cat, 22" magnaflow resonator, 5x8" oval muffler, 2-1/4" piping
it seems my exhaust is louder in the car than out of the car.
there are no leaks.
i think im going to sound deaden the entire car and maybe double up the deadening in the trunk area. maybe even spray some sound deadening undercoating on the underside of the trunk.
will dynamat or similar product reduce the exhaust noise in the car?
it should right? anyone try to reduce the exhaust noise with dynamat?
or any other suggestions besides get a new muffler?

It should help a little bit, but it may not work as well as you want it to. I think Dynamat and such is more to help vibration and reduce rattles. You need something that would be insulating, something that would absorb the sound.

Re: Sound deadening exhaust noise (DumpeDc2)
I don't know if carpet padding would work or not. You need some type of insulation that would absorb sound, I guess I already said that. I've heard of people using housing insulation (pink panther ****) in between their panels and what not to quite things down, but I'm not 100% about the floor of the car.
I will say this though, I used about 2 cans of that sound deadening **** in the trunk of my old Integra, and it helped a little, but not a lot.

What kind of tips do you have on the muffler, and how far do they extend out?
I've read about cases where tips that were just short of the rear bumper ended up with an exhaust drone really loud inside the car - the bumper acted like a big drum or resonating chamber. Adjusting the muffler placement farther rearward or installing slightly longer tips helped get the sound waves away from the body of the car . . . .
For sound deadening, you could give QuietCar a try. There are some S2000 owners who swear by it, and it's nowhere near as heavy as a dynamat type material would be. The other option would be a sound absorption foam mat like you can get from http://www.b-quiet.com - the Vcomp or Lcomp composite stuff. It's effective, but it also weighs about a pound per square foot.

Re: Sound deadening exhaust noise (Daemione)
my tip is a 2.5" pencil tip.
it extends out at least as far as my stock muffler tip.

that is my car, scroll down to the bottom of page 1 and you get a good idea of how far the tip is sticking out.
i have no "drone" like before with my n1.
if im at a constant speed i dont hear it at all.
its accelerating thats loud, i can feel the noise like i have a crazy sound system.
its like a bass competion in my car when i accelerate.
