Default Exhaust Issue?

Weird sound coming from underneath. Sounds like a rattle. I was thinking it was a heat shield on my exhaust or resonator or something, after jacking up my rear, I searched but found nothing lose or hanging.

I'm starting to think its some sort of internal noise in my resonator, something trapped inside, no idea.

I brought my car into pep boys so they could lift it up for me and they said they found NOTHING. They said the only noise they hear is internal, and there's nothing they can do for me.

Should I take my exhaust of completely and see if anything is inside? Or take it to a exhaust specialist? Or does anyone have any suggestions or ideas what this could be?

Very frustrating to hear. Just want it solved. Car is 100% at this point, minus this aggravating noise.

Cats and resonators break down over time. You probably have loose catalyst or resonator materials knocking around inside. Just unbolt and remove the cat, shake it around, and listen for it. If you hear it, you've found the problem.

Thanks a lot man. I appreciate the quick response & advice.

I recently got a cat put on my car to pass emissions, I was running 2 resonators and had a CEL on due to "Catylst Maufunction", after the replace, the CEL went away.

More than likely, one of the things you just mentioned is the issue then.

What was wrong with it? Was something in it?

Yeah part of the packing had worn out and was rattling around. I ended up just replacing my full exhaust and doing a high flow cat a few months after but it helped for the time being.

Well it's a brand new cat so I doubt something is worn out. But idk what the noise can be. I think I'm just going to take it to a exhaust shop or something an have them take it apart and figure it out. You think it's something in the cat or resonator? Also what could it be? Easy to get out?

Do you hear it mostly at a certain RPM or just when you car is idling? Exhaust issues are pretty cut and dry. Take it apart and shake it around. Make sure its not just a loose bolt rattling around on a flange or a broken exhaust spring bolt making some noise.

Any time. Idling, driving, I can hear it at all times. Pep-boys said they found nothing when they lifted it and its an internal noise. So I'm assuming its something lose inside the cat or resonator.

I'm trying to decide what to do, I have a GReddy muffler that I want to bring to a shop to get extended from 42" to 44" and get the hangars moved anyway, so while is there I might tell them to take it apart and see if they find anything, my fear about that is that they might either charge me a arm and a leg. Or even tell me that there's some bigger issue than there is an try to replace the cat or resonator and charge me, the cat is literally MAYBE 2 months old.

I'm thinking while it in the shop ill have them look into it. Im hoping the charge isnt bad, i cant figure this noise out and im irritated. I can't get under my car very well, I've used jacks and jacked it up as high as possible but I'm hammered. It's difficult.
