Default Skunk2 Stage 2 or Pro 1 cams and "Basic" SMOG in CA

I'm thinking about putting in either Skunk2 Stage 2 tuner cams or Pro 1 cams in my B18C1. I know that it's highly unlikely that Skunk2 Stage 2 or Pro series cams will pass CA SMOG on an "enhanced" test (on a dyno), but I live in a "basic test" area, so I only have to do the two-speed idle test where they measure tailpipe emissions at idle and 2500 RPM and no NOX. My question is, will these cams fail the TSI test as well as the dyno SMOG tests? I suspect they'll fail, but I'm just wondering if anyone has tried to pass a TSI SMOG test using these cams.

i would stick with the pro 1 cams there great! i think you would pass with the pro 1 cams no prob.there low cam lobes are not that off from the oem cams and you should be fine shawn from churches said i should be good with them when smoging but i ended up paying for my smog so it diddnt matter i got a set of sk2 pro1's for $350 shipped lmk.

Really? I thought the primaries of Pro 1 cams were bigger than stock...in fact, what I've read, they're bigger than Tuner Stage 2 cams. I know Tuner Stage 1 primaries are close to stock, and that those should pass smog with no problem (added to the fact they are CARB legal). I'm hoping there is someone that has actually tried passing a TSI SMOG test using either Tuner Stage 2 cams or Pro Stage 1 cams.

Pro1 primaries are nowhere near stock. They have more lift than a GSR VTEC lobe.

It all depends on how well your tuner can get them to idle. The Pro-series cam'd motors I've tuned like a bit higher of an idle to be 'smooth', typically around 850 RPM. Plus, there are a few tricks that help and more attention to your idle cells are needed to get them smooth during warmup and moving idle transitions.

its way harder to pass the 2speed idle test when your car is modified with cams. I have a smog license and found this so. The only plus to this is that you can lean the **** out of the motor for this test because it doesn't look for nox.

To update my original thread, I found one person that was able to pass WA emissions (on a dyno) using S2S2 cams, but he ended up mixing methanol with a low tank of gas in order to get it to blow zeros. Should work in CA as well. Pro1s will probably still be tough to pass.

I was told pro1s where basically itr cams or really similar, but I'm running a b18c5 in my gsr so I'm lean as hell with the gsr ecu when I pass smog anyways. But idk I'm really curious about this, so I would like to learn more before I try this.

dropmymonkey, i think your thinking of skunk2 stage 1 cams which are pretty much like itr's. the pro 1's on the other hand have a completely different, way bigger profiles

Ahhhhh gatcha, that's prolly why the tuner stage 1s are smog legal. I wonder if I could pass smog with pro 1s if I didn't detonate.

Nvm I just read your quote
