my new acl bearings are scratched up
my new acl race rod bearings have some scratches on them im wondering if I can still use them ? I doubt I can so my next question is im using acl race crank bearings and their fine but I can get acl bearings locally and I would have to wait at least a month to get some in from online so im wondering if it would hurt anything to use cleavite tri metal rod bearings and still use my acl crank bearings

What are your clearances looking like?
Did you measure the right way or are you trusting plastigage?
Don't run scratched bearings. Did you assemble the motor and then this happened or did you find them like this when you opened the package?
If they're new, exchange them. If you assembled/rotated and this happened, somethings not right.

Re: my new acl bearings are scratched up
I should have explained that beter that's my fault, two of the bearings got scratched up in shiping I bought a bottom end end off somebody and it came with everything to rebuild it but when I picked it up he couldn't find two of the bearings. but latter he found them and sent them to me in the mail and they ietther got scratched up in the mail or he scratched them up befor he sent them. Im assuming their no good to use ? that's why I was wondering if it would hurt to use the cleavite ones in their place but still use my acl crank bearings. ill get pictures of the bearings tomorrow if you still want

Re: my new acl bearings are scratched up
Definitely need to post pictures. Many times the bearings will have a mark where they contact each other in packaging. That doesn't necessitate replacement. If the bearings are scored from being dropped or something a little more violent then you may need to replace them.
According to ACL's catalogue only the HX bearings offer less clearance. So if you bought the ACL Race that are normal clearance then you should be able to use the Duraglide's and not have an issue.
And as mentioned, are you trusting $0.99 plasti-gage?

And yes it's possible to use ACL mains with Clevite rods. I've even used different brand half shells on the same journal with good success. Even though it isn't recommended to use different manufacturers, I was after specific clearance and the gamble is paying off.

Re: my new acl bearings are scratched up
As long as your clearances are right and the bearings are installed correctly it shouldn't matter what brand you run.
The material they are made of, the way they are finished and the quality of the bearing will have a lot to do with how long they last, but for lubrication purposes in your motor- as long as your clearances are correct and they are installed correctly you'll be fine.
I wouldn't trust any scratches on anything personally. If whatever damage is deep enough that you can feel it I wouldn't run them.

Re: my new acl bearings are scratched up
most of the scratches arnt very bad at all barely see them but there is one scratch in particular that's priety bad that I don't trust ill get a picture of it tomorrow and post it cause I don't have them with me at the moment. in that case im probly gona end up picking up a set of cleavite tri metallic rod bearings and put what ever good acl rod bearings I have up for sale for cheap, im sure somebody will find use for a few. could probly get away with just buying a few bearings but im not fealing very lucky. anybody ever use the cleavite bearings are they very good ? (first time building a motor)
