metal shavings in vtec solenoid

metal shavings in vtec solenoid
my vtec hasnt been working so i check everyhting and then i decide to check the solenoid itself.i took off the solenoid and there are metal shavings in the filter. i just recently took the oil pan off to change the gasket and there was nothing in the oil or the pan,i checked the pickup as well and it was clear.it is only in the solenoid. the motor is an ls/vtec stock block and a b16 head.it was turbod but not any longer.

That wouldn't happen for too long.
Since the oil is delivered from your pan, I would dump your engine oil and check for shavings If you don't already have a magnetic oil plug you can get a strong magnet and stick it to the pan near the oil drain, run your engine for a few seconds, then dump then after the oil is drained slide the plug toward the bung and it should pull the shavings toward the hole and you'll see them on the residual oil. If you have shavings in the pan, then it could be a number of things, including the rings.
I would do all the standard tests, compression, leak-down, if all else fails, get a bore-scope or if you are brave enough, take the head off and inspect cyl walls, and look for signs of trouble... check the plugs too.. as odd as it sounds.. If there is a problem, the plugs will tell a story. Run ability problems will cause the plugs to color differently.

i know i torqued them right...could this happen if the cam caps were installed in the wrong order?

ill start looking.also,it looked like there was a little bit of coolant in the oil that drained out when i took off the vtec solenoid,what could this be?

i know i torqued them right...could this happen if the cam caps were installed in the wrong order?
