junk yard testing... what to look for?
im getting a b18 for a start for my LSVTEC swap tomorrow for only 350 bucks. its not stolen or damaged, it just came off a wrecked car (hit in the passenger door)
anyways, they are gonna test it tomorrow morning... and i know the kinda stuff they do (leak test, compression)
im just wondering all i need to look for, and a range of what numbers for the compression test?
thanks!

Re: (mountaindewguy)
For an LS/Vtech motor, you want good solid compression, not just decent. I'm guessing you want 170 psi at the very least, considering that the LS/Vtech is based on the high compession GSR motor.

compression numbers? getting it tomorrow at noon, please reply! thanks!</TD></TR></TABLE>
i have worked in a junkyard for several years. i have never seen one that has any kind of "standard start up warranty" which is why i asked.
the yard i work for usually offers a warranty ranging from 30 days to 12 months/12k miles depending on the installation facility. other yards i have bought from also do the same thing typically. the only place i have seen a start up warrnaty is a engine importer, who wont back the engine since they dont have a clue about it since they dont get the car with the engine.

Re: (v4lu3s)
checked the warranty. all engines have a 30 day guarentee to function (not including accessory parts i.e. dizzy, alternator, etc., those have like a week.). and the yard i got it from is very recognized around here. and my boss (also my girlfriends daughter) knows the owner pretty well.
i figured the teg had been sitting or the engine has, but it turns out he just bought the car from an insurance wreck yard (very light hit to the passenger side) and the engine runs well. i took it for 350 bucks, and i figure i can get 100 out of the head to the right buyer, so i think i got a deal.
thanks for the replys!
