Default fuel pump

recently my car would start, idle at about 300 rpms then suddenly die on me with about 1/8 tank of gas. i filled my gas tank up and now when i start it i hear a whining noise from the back for about 20 seconds. my question is, do i need to change my fuel pump? thanks

Would you think buying a new fuel pump would solve my problem? So far my car starts and idles well with a full tank of gas; yet it still boggs when i drive it and let go of the throttle, thinking about buying a Walbro 255 Fuel Pump.

That's because once you start the car you can't hear the pump anymore...

When your car is running, the pump is making the same sound it makes when it primes.
