Default CEL confusion on a 99 CR-V (CEL and ABS light both blink)

I was checking for a CEL code on my wife's 99 CR-V and I got confused.

The CEL was blinking a "9" (CYP Sensor (Cylinder) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor) ???

The ABS light was blinking a "54". (CKF Sensor (Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor)

I'm left scratching my head.

The ABS light blinks it's own code. You look up 5-4 in a list of ABS error codes. I know the ABS codes for '94-'97 Integras is different from later Integras, so you should make sure you find the correct list. It'll be in a Helm repair book.

Thanks a million.

Oddly enough, I had it checked out and they told me it was "auxiliary emmisions control"--can't remember the code#. Probably an 02 sensor.

Gee--they didn't pull up anything on the ABS system. Granted, this was done in haste while my wife's car was at the Valvoline instant oil change place.

What's weird is that nothing was up w/ the ABS light until I jumped the diagnostic port in order to get the CEL code.

I'll have a trusted mechanic look at it.

i've got the same problem with my 98 crv. abs throws a 54 when i check the engine code. i turned the engine on...the abs doesn't throw a code anymore though. let me know too...if you find out anything more. in my own opinon, i think there's really nothing wrong with the abs though.

Yeah, 90 makes some sense for the CEL code.

At least for Integras, 5-4 for the '98+ ABS error is 'Fail-safe relay', whatever that means. I guess you'd want the troubleshooting procedure from a Helm book.

Turns out the light was because her gas cap wasn't on tight enough.

As for the ABS light, nothing's acted up, so I don't know what to say there.

funny gamby, my lady's crv had the same problem today. the gas cap wasn't on tight enough too. cel threw a 90. i checked the gas cap by unscrewing it, there was no pressure at all (none of that hissing noise when the pressure is released).
