Default Burn 5 quarts of oil every 2 weeks

I burn about 5 quarts of oil about every two weeks in my LS/Vtec build. B16 head with a B18a block, all pretty much stock.

Any questimations out there?

Im guessing valve seals are shot considering a B18a is the oldest. and im not guessing im running rich

I don't think valve stem seals would leak that much... must be something bigger like a piston ring, main seal, or an external gasket/seal.

Seems like a lot of consumption. Most likely a combination of oil rings and valve seals. Full rebuild in order soon....

yep im looking at doing a full rebuild in the next month or so, i figure since the model of the motor is so old that it is in need of piston rings, valve seals, etc.......the whole kit and kaboodle. tomorrow im calling my machine shop in oder to price a full tear down and rebuild.

The head isn't part of the original motor so the valve seals might not be bad. To burn that much oil you would have to have a pretty substantial problem.

Just wondering... are you using synthetic oil?

Are you getting plumes of smoke from the back of your car? If not I'm gonna say its leaking somewhere.

My wifes eg does the same thing. Oil smoke isn't always blue. My wifes cars smoke looks white but its oil for sure!!!! Alot of people say if its not blue it not oil. I have only had one honda that burned blue smoke and it was so much smoke that I couldn't even see the cars on the freeway behind me when I down shifted. Good luck with the rebuild!!

Just got my quote for the rebuild...................$3500 smackaroos. $900 of that was for labor. What does anyone think of this price? I feel that is a bit overboard, these are the moments i wish i had the space to do the rebuild myself, i mean i walk to work everyday.

just realized my O2 sensor is bad, cause i hooked my air/fuel gauge up and it blinked on and thhen back off which i believe indicates O2 is defective, resulting in me running really rich?

Wow.... That is steep.....Here in Las Vegas you can just get a jdm B18 for like 600-800 from a shop... I don't know how easy it is to get motors in Michigan but 3500 seems a bit much... IMO.

well i could order a B16 from Tiger motors out of canada and have it delivered for $1663. but i just dont know if want to purchase a whole new motor or just have my LS/V rebuilt. But here in michigan they dont take kindly to us ole' honda enthusiasts. bunch of american made bastards up here.
