*NON HONDA* Starter Problems
Working a friend's 2002 Dodge Intrepid. It has the 3.5L V6.
The starter motor went bad on the previous starter. The bendix was still functioning but you had to kick the key over and over and over until you got the brushes lined up right and it was basically a huge pain in the dick. I pulled out the old starter (which is ALSO a pain in the dick) and dropped in a new reman. The bendix is kicking out and the motor is turned both in the car and on the bench but it's not actually touching the flywheel teeth (which are all there and not chipped). I've checked voltage drop across the solenoid and it's fine. Just for ***** and gigs I went through and cleaned all power and ground connections. No change. Any ideas?
PS I also re-verified the part number and it is correct.

(New-reman is an oxymoron) not uncommon at all for a reman to not function properly...

Ditto the above, either the wrong starter, or a defective one, it would not be the first time a reman was labled wrong, [wrong part number] or a reman was DOA. 94

Re: *NON HONDA* Starter Problems
way late update (fixed 11/25) because I hate when no one announces the result. turns out the original starter was junk (bendix not engaging the flywheel) and the reman was assembled with the overrunning clutch installed backwards. That means that the bendix was kicking out but as soon as it hit the flywheel the motor was disengaged from the output. Anyways, after a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth I got the parts store to give me another starter and then then after some crawling around under that piece of junk I got it replaced. The owner was happy and is somehow still driving it (I think).
