Will KYB shocks help my ride quality with ebay coilovers?
Hey guys i have a set of coilover sleeves from ebay for my 99 civic. but the shocks are completely blown out im guessing because my car has been bouncing around like crazy and its stiff as hell when it bounces. do u guys think that a set of kyb shocks will make my car better, as in not as bouncy and stuff? let me know if new shocks will solve my problem.

Re: Suspension Question
Kyb shocks are bad shocks to get if i was you i would stick with what you have for now and save some $ for a set of fully adjustable coilovers. Its alot more money to spend but in the long run its worth it.

Re: Suspension Question
You've got no idea what quality of material is used in making the spring and more importantly the sleeve. You could get into a very serious accident using a faulty product from a company you'd likely never get any legal compensation from.
The reason you're here asking these questions is because you cheaped out on suspension. People with quality suspension like Koni/Progress/Etc don't have to ask these questions because they're quality products that people put hundreds of thousands of miles on.
Get a full coilover that is reputable like progress or go with the undeniably best bang for buck Koni/Ground control.
If you want to put and end to having suspension problems quit buying junk. Plain and simple.

Re: Suspension Question
If you don't know the answer to that then I don't know what to tell you? Why do you think your shocks are blown in the first place? And you're thinking of getting pretty much OEM replacements. By the time you keep replacing blown and crappy equipment you could have saved for that "professional" setup.

Re: Suspension Question
Trust us. Start over and buy real suspension. Avoid skunk2 like the Bubonic plague. Much better options out there.
If you have to be absolutely a cheap-*** buy Koni Srt and a Neuspeed/H&R/Tein spring that has the height/rate requirement you'd like.
Or you could spring for ground control + koni SRT, that would be about $600 and you'd get a lifetime warranty on both.

Re: Suspension Question
KYB is junk for what it is. There are better options. Is that better?
I know exactly what you're doing. You're trying to bandaid a problem using cheap-*** store brand band aids. You aren't trying to fix the root of the problem.
Like grumble said, the KYB shocks will blow eventually too, and you'll be back here asking us for "advice" once again. Grumble and I are both well seasoned in doing **** wrong the first time and it is very expensive.

Re: Suspension Question

Re: Suspension Question
indeed, progress is the best budget coilover at $580. The only other cheap alternative I recommend is Koni/SRT + choice of ground control or lowering spring.

Re: Suspension Question
If he only paid $30 for his coilover sleeves I seriously doubt he has the scratch for even a budget Progress setup. I don't think your version of cheap is the same as his.

Re: Suspension Question
Your shocks have probably been blown for the past 2 years. How low are you dropped BTW? What kind of spring rates do you get for $30? Because you know spring rates also play an important role in ride handling and quality.

Re: Suspension Question
That+dropped too low+stock springs=blown shocks and shitty ride.
I repeat. What spring rate does $30 get you?
"25%-30% stiffer than stock springs" doesn't mean squat.
