Default Shocks/Springs for 06 TL Recomendations

Going to be upgrading my shocks/springs for my Tl. Currently i have the ASpec suspension from acura, However they told me the MT version of that suspension has been discontinued. Wondering what would be a good option?

Im thinking Tein S Tech for springs With either Tokico HP (blue) or Koni Sports (gold)

I do not need a adjustable dampening, i really dont see myself adjusting that all the time. I have a civic with the Tein Type flex damper kit i would most likely like to retain a drop in set-up for the TL.

Anyone have any recomendations for a 04-08 TL or V7 accord 03-07 (belive there the same suspension)

I was decently happy with the Aspec suspension looking for comparable or maybe more slighlty more aggressive.

Thanks

slightly more aggressive... my choice would be the eibach pro kit with koni sport gold out of the choices you offered. mild drop with good damping

I have only set-up 3 honda suspensions so take my recommendation with that in mind. I am by no means a suspension expert.

In every case I have used koni sports (yellows). Not because I need to adjust, but if I ever need to the capability is there, they have a lifetime warrantee, they are built to work throughout the range of the shock travel.

I have used H&R springs on 2 honda accords, the sport set on one and the OE sport set (softer and not as low) on the other. Both sets of H&R springs were awesome right out of the box. They did not sag over time or give me an un-level car. They are progressive springs which are a softer ride until pushed.

On my latest set-up I wanted to try the koni/GC's. Cannot review thoroughly as I have just installed the fronts, but I hope to have the same experience as most on here. Right off the bat I can tell you that they are a more aggressive spring than the H&R's as they are not progressive in function but more linear. I do love the adjustable spring perch for exact leveling of car (left to right and get rid of the "boat" look).

The other great feature of the koni sport shocks is the adjustable lower spring perch clip. You can tailor the hieght another 1/2 - 3/4 inch just by moving the clip.

The H&R springs also come with different lowering measurements for the front/rear to do away with the boat look.

Hope this helps.

I am almost certain im going with the KONI Sports (yellow/gold) There about 135$ each. Even though ill rarely adjust i guess the option wouldnt be bad. I dont really want coilovers as im ok with a inch drop. This is my daily driver i have a turbo civic i play with. Id like to keep the acura more OEM.

Im not certain on the Springs....i have Tein on my civic and the damper kit is amazing. I looked and the have H tech and S Tech springs....I was thinking the H tech are probably along the lines of my current Aspec suspension which lowers it slightly....The S tech are about anohter 1/2" lower. So im thinking those would be a good match since its slighlty lower but not too much

Anything else i should be ordering when replacing shock/spings. Pretty sure the shocks come with the bushing on the top. Not sure if i should get new OEM strut mounts (rubber piece on top of spring) AGain the spring may include those not sure.

Thanks for the replies.

I didn not realize the koni have adjustable spring seats either....maybe the H tech springs with the lowest seat setting would be better. As i believe the H tech use better material for the springs

I always order new spring perch rubber and upper shock mount rubber. The koni yellows do not come with the upper shock mount rubber (2 pieces per shock), and anytime I am changing springs I use new upper and lower spring perch rubber as they tend to get a deep groove in them from the original spring.

Might be a little overkill, but if I spend over 130.00 per shock, then spring cost, a few more bucks to get new (OEM) rubber is a no brainer.

I also just recently ordered new bolts/nuts for my lower shock fork. Just added insurance.

Also, remember to re-clock your control arm bushings if lowering. Loosen while car is raised, then tighten when on the ground. It will keep your stock bushings from tearing.

Yea i will buy the new rubber spring seats and upper shock mounts...seems cheap. Im thinking OEM would be the way to go there too...ill look into it.

#2 and #15 should come with the Shocks??....... Youre saying to buy #11 and #9? There really isnt a upper rubber spring seat. Unless that is incorportated into the mount? This is a view of the Rear but front is similar.

I think i saw the KYB sold upper strut mounts for 8$ on tire rack.

Definitely go with OEM

I always replace #2 (two per shock, they will not come with koni's)

#11 - 1 per shock (rubber spring seat)

You will not need #9, it is the steel top hat that you can re-use

#15 will not come with shocks. You can re-use the old ones (cut them in half) or order new ones from koni.

I ordered the Koni bump stops (replaces #15) just to make sure I had all new stuff, and one of my old ones was torn.

Hope this helps

You can also get those #20's from the Type S if your feeling spendy. They are more like a rubber coated spherical bearing. Just like what's found on the Integra Type R. They are like $15 each though. Part number is 51631-SEP-A01. They also eliminate the top #1 & bottom #3 washers. And you would have to drill them out to 12mm if you went with Koni shocks.

As for the springs, you may consider H&R sport springs. Everyone on Acurazine complains about the Eibach pro-kit because it "looks" like the front rides higher than the rear. Of course it's just cause the front fender arches are a lot bigger on the TL, but it really does look uneven. The H&R kit lowers the front an extra .4" which evens out the gap perfectly.

94eg,

thanks great info there...Actually thinking the #20 would be a good upgrade. 15$ isnt bad. When you say to bore out to 12mm so the KONI shocks have a different larger shaft diameter? If this is the case wouldnt you have to do that with either bushing choice?

Last time i bought tokico shocks it came with the bump stop and bushings at the top.
