Over Steer/ unstable
Hello all
I've been fighting with this problem ever since i bought this 91' Teg back in 06/12
It didnt run when i bought it so this is how this problem hid from me.
Anyways this car is just plain unstable while goin straight down the road, all the suspension is redone-full energy suspension kit, KYB GR-2's & suspension techniques lowerin springs, new ball joints, new tires too. God forbid if you have to change lanes & run over the crack in between the lanes bcuz it will track whatever & whenever it can & follow till you change its course & then when you do come off the crack or whatever its all over the place. I can not find any play in the steering what so ever i checked the subframe to make sure its tight. It does however have the original R&P with 245000 on the odometer. I'm wondering if theres a chance that maybe something internal is wrong with the rack & pinion but would'nt it rear its ugly head in a shake down test? But like i said earlier i cannot find any play anywhere with the front end up in the air. I'm about to order ALL the braces i can for this thing do yall think that will help????? When i go on a curved overpass, i go into the turn, then the back of the car feels like it wants to come around & i have to quickly turn the wheel the other way thinking" this time" its goin to break loose UGH!!!!
Thanks for any input

Re: Over Steer/ unstable
What is your chamber and how low is the car? I have also replaced bushing and all suspension components in my eg6. I have a manual R&P that has almost 300k miles. I did tighten my steering rack not too long ago which helped take all the slack out. My tires sit flush with fender wells and I have -2 degrees camber front and rear. My car has bump steer pretty bad as well and I credit the camber for this issue. I plan on getting a camber kit to see if that improves the bump steer.

Re: Over Steer/ unstable
Also need to know camber front and rear. If it's extreme the tires will have a tendency to tramline.
Was the car aligned after all this stuff was installed?

Re: Over Steer/ unstable
That rear camber could be a cause of the bump steer. I think also having - toe on one side while having + toe would cause issues.

Re: Over Steer/ unstable
Well this is the most recent alignment to solve this issue i've had the alignment redone about 10 times to solve this so im at a loss. I mean i'll get the rear toe straighten out but its not going to really notice any differance other than letting go of the wheel & watch it go straight as long as theres no cracks to get rutted into. I really need to find a shop that will have a badass front end guy other than the NTB guy tellin me theres no specs for caster or camber cuz it was none adjustable from the factory as he looks at me with a goofy look of confusion

Re: Over Steer/ unstable
Well i would think going around a curve & strut towers flexing about, which im sure they are, with any extra stability helping the front end stay true, cant hurt ya know?
got my **** back to 0° in the rear cant tell a difference
Going to swap out the front wheels off my other car that have diffrent tires & see how it feels
Thanks everybody for the input

Re: Over Steer/ unstable
Plenty of people run without a front swaybar and don't have a problem as severe as this sounds with oversteer. I wouldn't necessarily jump to that being the issue. Esp if this loose feeling comes about on intial turn in.
You mentioned the car has had its bushings replace with ES. How long/miles ago was that done? Does the car have the original trailing arm bushings in or the ES bushings? Have you recently inspected all of the bushings to make sure none have torn, cracked, "egged" out in shape?

ES trailing arm bushings?
I'll be the first to ask, are you sure it's oversteering? You don't exactly have the makings of a tail happy setup.
Post the new alignment settings.

Re: Over Steer/ unstable
It was the piece O' **** tires case closed
Still got bumpsteer but that aint nuthin compared to what it was doin
Weak *** sidewall on the tires so do not buy said tires above even tho the price looks good
