Default Not a "write up" "write up" SKunk2 on Koni's

First off I wanted to do a semi write up with pics but the hands got dirty at this point I am lazy. Reason why I am doing this. I first had this set up almost 10 yrs ago. I was not aware of a couple of things like Skunk2 made an actual adapter for this and Koni will not Honor the warranty if you use just the perch to mount the slip on's. I love this set up only because I already had the springs laying around. I would recommend getting GC over this any day because you can choose your spring rates and it's about same price and no need for extra parts buying.

Here we go.

Parts list
Koni 8041-1152 Fronts 8041-1213 Rears.
Skunk2 Koni adapter 517-99-0690
G/C Spring isolator MO2770 (they will not sell you this unless you already own G/C's hehe)
G/C top hats Hondamount 12MM KONI
Honda bump stops 57122-SR0-003 for the rear.

You must USE Skunk2 Koni adapter 517-99-0690 or you will void your Koni warranty.

Here is the grove where the circlip will rest.

This is what the circlip looks like installed on the shock.

It sits on the circlip and the sleeve rest on top of it. I didn't take pics of this my hands were trashed by then. I also received brand new O-rings from Skunk2 so I installed the medium sized ones using silicone lube and a flat tip screw driver to squeeze between the sleeve and shock. The sleeve sits really tight and ain't going no where. I don't care what anyone says about the GC's are better because the sit directly on the shock, I have seen Aircraft use O-ring setups like this mount to **** and do fine. My theory on that is if it's not pressed on or threaded on the body itself it ain't gonna make a damn difference. After this step just install everything like the instructions show.

Rubber can/will deteriorate eventually.

This is true, this is why I called Skunk2 and had them send me a new bag. But it was free of charge.

Is it necessary to use the G/C Spring isolators or will the OEM ones fit also?

You can also get EK9 bumpstops, those are PU.

You can use the the OEM rubber upper bushings although the don't fit on the 2.5" springs perfect.

Since we don't have real Ek9 in the US I didn't post that part #.

Actually the EK9 bumpstops are used on USDM EK's up front (the rear ones) and on Accords I think (the front ones).

Will post part # and models used on.

I'm so lazy

EK9 front bumpstop: RUBBER, FR. BUMP STOPPER (POLYURETHAN KASEI) 51722-SS0-004
found in Accord and Prelude

EK9 rear bumpstop: RUBBER, BUMP STOPPER (POLYURETHAN KASEI) 52722-SM4-961
found in Accord, Civic, Del Sol used in Front Shock Absorber

So these OEM PU bumpstops are perfectly available

Also note that EK9 features different top hat bushings and washers, in that these are one-piece items (part not available in the US)

It comes in pairs, so you need 2 kits.

The "sleeve" over shock is not that strong ! The sleeve can crack.. seen it happen on cars that race at the track ! !

If you use the correct parts and install it correctly this is IMPOSSIBLE.

Sounds to me that you didn't use a Skunk2 Koni adapter ring but one of the rounded rings supplied with the Koni shocks, those are NOT intended for use with sleeves.

Sorry for thread jacking, but, I have a set of those SK2 coilover sleeves and I'm getting my hands into a set of Tokiko Illuminas.

Would it be a perfect fit or I need some sort of adaptor? thanks

Get Koni's;
Get Skunk2 Koni adaptor rings (see TS);
Get GC extended top hats (needed with Koni Sport Yellows).

You dont need the extended top hats with Koni "Race" Shocks.
Just with Sport Shocks.

I ran them on my car and I didn't slam anything, just wanted as much shock "travel" as I could get.
