I am in the process of replacing my 24 year old suspension parts in my integra. How can i tell if the inner tie rods are bad? I replaced the outer because its obvious. dont wanna throw money away. looking at pictures on rockauto i dont see how they can get worn out? looks like a ball with threads.

They wear out and will start to clunk
You should replace them even just because of age if they have no play
Lift the one wheel and put your hands on 10 and 3 on the tire and move it side to side
If its worn out
You will feel play in the tire

Thanks dude. i'll just do them now. looking at them i would hate to do it when the motors in.

If the accordian boots are torn and have been for a long time. Almost certainly the inner ball joint needs to be replaced.

it's best to try with the outer tie rod disconnected from the steering knuckle.

pull on the tie rod and feel for any loose play

and while you're there grab the hub where the wheel studs stick out and see if you can wiggle those around. There should be no play, if there is then you need to replace your wheel bearing which would cost around $100, including the bearing if you take the knuckle and bearing to a shop with a press.

They are super easy to replace even with everything in. Pop wheel off, loosen outer tie rod lock nut and start loosening the inner tie rod by spinning it.

It was harder getting the new steering rack boots/inner tie rod boots to sit on the groove properly and get the vacuum hose connected. I used zip ties to secure everything.

Nah not torn, but I did buy new boots! Figured it would be a good idea since I am down there replacing the outers tie rods. I just wasn't sure about the inners. because I cant see them or never felt anything out of the ordinary. ill just man up and do them.
