Default Ground control coilovers - 3 different kits

I plan on getting some ground control coilovers but was curious about the 3 different kits offered for the 92-00 civics. Their website isnt much help and I was hoping someone here knew from experience. I figure they are different spring rates and different spring lengths but was really curious what the "off the shelf" differences actually are...especially the "motor swap" specifications.

There all listed as "Coilover Conversion kit, 92-00 Honda Civic/ Del Sol"
#4530 (LIMITED EDITION) - 380F/280R (?)

#4530D (LIMITED EDITION)(Drag Racing)

(LIMITED EDITION)(Motor Swap)
#4530M

thanks

i just ordered some myself. the litmited editions are pretty basic. they fit stock and a few aftermarket shocks such as tokicos, kyb etc. they dont fit konis or bilstein. you have to order special ground controls that will fit with those particular shocks. so it really depends on what kind of shocks you are going to use. I didn't have the cash to get the koni yellows so i picked up some gc le's and some kyb agx shocks. We'll see how they'll hold up. i wanted illuminas but i heard tokico made a better shock/strut. and again money was an issue. you can order ground controls with custom spring rates... it'll cost a little more but people say its worth it. i just bought the standard gc

sound like were both going the same route...$ makes the shoots but, i've been running teins s-tech's and tockico blues and hate'em for around here...roads in new england are pretty beat up. so i picked up some agx and i was looking for a moderate spring rate pretty much what the off the shelf limited editions are but was real curious about the off the shelf swapped version just for comparsion.

ordering custom rates from Ground Control direct is no extra charge.

Certain custom rates aren't an increase in price.... other rates are a $40 increase. So, if you want exactly the rates you request, then you have to pay the extra. But if you can go with something like a 380/430 rate (for example), then you don't have to pay the extra fee. That's the difference. We sell standard kits for Konis at $280 shipped, but when ERS springs are specified, then it jumps to $320 shipped. But if you get a 380/430 rate (metric Ground Control springs made by Eibach), then you don't have to pay extra. And the GC springs are not cheap junk...they are superb quality.

Oh, and the GC springs only go up to around 500 lb/in; so anything over that is automatically an Eibach Race Spring.

I thought all the springs on the GCs were ERS? I'm a little confused... It sounds like the only way to get GCs with custom rates without an extra charge would be to use a springrate that is available as an OTS rate?

What is the difference between the Koni GCs and 'other' shock GCs besides the mounting adapter? Would it be possible to buy the Koni version, remove the adapter and use it on another shock?

The true "Koni" version doesn't have an adapter. It is a smaller tube & nut that fit the shock body perfectly (GC calles them baby tubes/nuts). The reason they make adapter sleeves is for the people that switched to Koni shocks after they've already installed regular GC's on their OEM shocks. That way they don't have to buy new sleeves & nuts (you can use your old nuts).

I almost bought the adapter sleeves when I upgraded to Koni shocks, but I decided the baby tubes/nuts were worth the extra $10-$20. The outer diameter of the baby sleeve is small enough that the spring will NEVER contact the threads of the tube (this happened on my original sleeves).

My koni sports w/ baby tubes:

The OTS rates often are different then what ERS rates come in, IE 380, 430, ect. They are essentially the same springs just different rates.

So then I could just buy the 'normal' GCs and mount them to my AGX; then next year, when I have the money for Konis, I could buy an adapter from them so they'd fit?

That's what I'm really trying to get at. I can't afford the Konis right now, but I know I'll be buying them in the future.

That's what I figured.

Thanks for the info guys

This is getting confusing when it really doesn't have to be.... I think. The baby tubes are good for Konis but that doesn't mean the other ones are wrong. In fact they used to not even have the smaller tubes. But alas, you can use either one.

And the ERS springs and the Ground Control springs are essentially the same, but the Ground Control kits come standard with "their" springs. The ERS springs are additional cost for both Ground Control and thus for their customers. In the end, if you are running custom rates above about 500 lbs/in, then you have to get the ERS (Eibach Race Springs). And many times if you want specific rates under 500 lb/in with specific free lengths, then you have to get ERS springs because the OTS GC springs only come in cerain lengths and rates.

Hope that is clear as mud.

When you get your Koni's, you will be purchasing both the adapters and new threaded sleeves. You can't use just the adapter on your old sleeve. This is what GC told me over the phone, and this is why I chose to get the baby tubes & nuts for just a little bit more $...
