GC w/ Koni Yellow w/ Tophats????
has anyone used the Ground Control Coilover Sleeves with Koni Yellow's and also the 4 ground control tophats? I am looking to buy this setup and was wondering if anyone has used this before and how it rides! thanks!

Nope, it's never been done before.
Yes, it's been done, hundreds of times, if not thousands, or more.
Ride quality is not something we can tell you. We don't even have enough information to guess how it will ride.

It's one of the most common and reliable setups available for our cars. You don't provide us any information about use or goals so this thread is currently useless until you provide us that info.

It's just for a daily. I want to go pretty low with it not completely slammed because the roads here are brutal to say the least and I know you can't have a really comfortable ride when slammed

What chassis is this on? You need to decide on spring rates, if you want to go pretty low and have decent comfort 450/350 is decent but you'll have to decide based on your needs.

Re: GC w/ Koni Yellow w/ Tophats????
i have 96 EX coupe. I am only looking for a nice daily ride. A friend of mine also with a 96 ex has skunk2 sleeves with KYB AGX struts and his rides 10x better than mine and he is lower than me! I hear a ton of good things about the koni yellow with GC so I just wanted to get the opinion of more people who have used this setup or suggestions for different setups

Ride quality is pretty much spring rates, how stiff your dampeners are, and how slammed you are.
Lower you go, more spring rate is needed because there is physically less suspension travel.

hey hey hey. dont bash F&F. I had GC and koni yellows with extended top hats on my DB and F&F on my civic. To be honest, I like the F&F better. 2 1/2 years and no issues at all
im not saying GC is bad either, just giving my opinion. And you cant beat the price on F&F
good luck

ahhh that's right. full coilovers are the best right?

Nothing that proves full coil over are superior to a sleeve and shock setup. It's essentially the same thing. I've said it many times but if it makes you happier, weld the sleeve to the shock body and call it a full coilover! And skunk 2 is made from sub par parts mainly the dampeners, they aren't paired for the spring rates on the pro-c and suffer from a bouncy ride, and is underdamped

Re: GC w/ Koni Yellow w/ Tophats????
I was riding on 2.5" jack points, with only about 1cm of suspension travel before the UCA would hit the shock towers. If i wanted more low, i would need to box the shock towers and get extended top hats. OP does not want this low, so extended top hats will not benefit.
And my custom rated koni/gc (550/450) are not bouncy at all when not super dumped. However when i was super dumped (2.5" jack points) the suspension was a tad bit bouncy and underdamped. I raised the car up approx .75 inches and the ride is 100x better.

Re: GC w/ Koni Yellow w/ Tophats????
I've explained it so many times. Poor quaility parts, they don't last. ***** boucny as hell, or back breakingly stiff.
I know several people that had Skunk2 coilovers, including myself. Pro S= horrible, just ****. Bouncy as all hell. 2 dampers blew in a ~year.
Pro-s II- same thing as Pro s, other then the ride height height now adjusts at the lower mount.
Pro c- Rides like ***, no matter what you do with the adjuments. You don't notice a diference until you are damn near full stiff, or full soft.
You know what it being boucny means right? Bouncy= underdamped.
You can do whatever you want. There is NO benefit to go with a "full coilover." They aren't special.
The top hats aren't needed. You can run factory top hats and be just fine. However some perfer to buy the GC extended top hats.
"way more better investment?" How so?
I'll explain. Koni/gc gets a lifetime waranty. (to the orginal buyer only) What does skunk2 offer? A year? That's if they will even honor it.
And I do have experience with trying to get them to honor the waranty, they refused.

Koni/gc, like you were orginaly looking at.
But I think you need to do somemore research before you buy anything. Check the stickied thread.

If you can ride in as many setups you can. (Most likely all if them will be ff and other crappy suspensions).
Ride quality is pretty much spring rates, how stiff your dampeners are, and how slammed you are.
Lower you go, more spring rate is needed because there is physically less suspension travel.

Re: GC w/ Koni Yellow w/ Tophats????
If you had been on these forums as long as I have, you'd have a long standing recollection of NUMEROUS posts about skunk2 coilovers blowing, being bouncy, dying after a year or two, etc.
We never see posts about "why have my koni's blown?"
Where we see leaking F&F, Skunk2, etc, all the time.
I've been here for years. Trust me. I've followed this forum and the 92-00 civic forum, and I can tell you from memory which manufacturers have the most problems. Skunk2, F&F, Ksport, and D2. I've honestly seen MORE from Skunk2 than D2/ksport combined I think; quite possibly because skunk2 is better known. In my opinion, for the quality you're getting with skunk2 makes them extremely overprices. That kind of quality is usually $200-300 cheaper.
