97 civic suspension noise
hey all, im having some trouble pinpointing where my squeak/tinging noise, if you will, is coming from! i have looked all over honda-tech and google and so on and found useful information, but still i have some questions. anyways
the cars a 97 honda civic dx. manual. no power steering.
problem is i have a squeak/door hinge sound that started a few days ago. from the front right side of my car. but i only noticed it once and i thought, dust shield! checked them out they looked tweaked a bit. but them back and hoped it would be gone. next day i drove to work with no noise but at lunch when i left as i backed out of my space noise was back, but just every now and than i could get it to happen.
at first it would only happen when stopped the car not moving. i checked for play in the ball joints and tie rods later that day. seemed to be no play. and also about six months ago i replace the right side lower ball joint when i did my trannys bearings. but it was an autozone one
anyways as the next couple days went by on and off the sound would come and go. till about two nights ago it got much louder, and seems to happen now also when rolling. whether its slow or stopped. i can hear it. as i pick up speed i cant tell because all of the road noise. but parking lot speed or stopped i can make the sound appear.
the sound only happens when i turn the steering wheel about a 1/4 turn left or right, any more than that its quiet. i was thinking cv joints, cuz ive had my boots ripped for some time now, so i picked some up tonight i will replace in the next few days! but my questions are.
i know cv boots tend to click when they go bad, not so much a squeaky door hinge sound/slight slight maybe clunk. could it be my cv joints causing this noise? im certain they need replacing. but can they squeak like a bad lbj?
another question is i just sprayed some silicone spray on my tie rod ends lower and upper ball joints as well as the control arm bushings and my steering felt a little easier to turn after, but the noise was still there. would that mean anything?
sorry for all the writing, trying to give you guys as much information as possible. any help would be appreciated. i would really like to find the problem before i just start buying parts! thanks guys!
my car is lowered as well, a considerable amount, my low profile jack barely gets under the jacking points.

Re: 97 civic suspension noise
okay guys, since last saturday when i made this post i have gotten under the car and sprayed some silicone spray on all my bushings to see if this would make a differnce, which by the way all looked in ok condition. that was on last sunday. drove it immediately after and the sound was still there.
next morning drove and the sound was completly gone. didnt come back at all until yesterday. so im a little confused. still havent had the time to get under and swap out my cv axles. hoping i can in the next day or two. havent had much time. i got a video for you guys to watch to see if any of you had expirience this or seen similar problems!

Re: 97 civic suspension noise
Have you jacked the car up and gotten under it and moved **** around?? I have the same issue as use and have pulled on every part and for the most part my CV's have the most play. My passenger side tie rod.... a little bit... My problem is my CV's are not making ANY noise, or "normal-bad-CV-noise" for that matter.

Re: 97 civic suspension noise
i have gotten under and moved stuff. tie rods seems to be fine. ball joints is only a few months old and seems to still be fine. the only thing that is visibly bad is my cv joint boots. and i can see grease inside. as well as dirt and stuff :/ but the sound doesnt sound like the bad cv joint you normally hear. which is why i am confused! i picked up some new ones i havent put on yet thought anyways. however once again the sound hasnt come back for 2 days now..so im at a loss! my bushings all appear fine as well!

I'm in the same boat as you with mine just different issues. I'm about to just buy tie rods, wheel bearings, rack and pinion, and have a few thirty packs and have a party. I have no clue what to do next and you sound the same. lol

I know! Hahah. It still has yet to come back so I can't really try searching for it! I'm ready to just replace everything as well! Keep me updated with why you find!

Re: 97 civic suspension noise
i would also inject grease in all the ball joint boots with a syringe. one of my cars squeaked when turning or going over bumps and i did this and the sounds went away. there wasnt any play on them yet. but they were bone dry
thats just a quick fix tho. youll eventually have to replace all the boots you poked lol

Re: 97 civic suspension noise
Ahh I'll give that a shot when I start to hear the sound again! I have pushed back my dust plate! And I didn't see any signs of rubbing, however it would be nice if that was all it was haha. Thanks for your reply!
