Replacing the pump did the trick, Thanks again.
My wifes 91 Honda has just started pushing power steering fluid out of the reservoir cap. The fluid is dark brown and smells burnt. Also the steering "chirrups" when making left or right hand turns. This started at the same time as the fluid leak. I have never added fluid, yet when I checked it was well above the full mark when the engine was cold. I had it in for an oil change at the local honda dealer about 4 weeks ago, this would be the only time that fluid might have been added. Perhaps they overfilled it? I bled the pump and put all new Honda fluid in but it still chirrups when turning. Is there a reason the system would suddenly start pushing fluid? Do i need a new pump? Why would the old fluid look so dark brown? I believe it was the original fluid, very old. Thanks for any suggestions. Modified by svarver at 2:09 PM 2/25/2004 |

I read your reply and went out and double checked the belt. Tension was good, belt has 40000 miles on it but looked good. No cracks or glazing. The local boneyard has a pump for $30.00 so I thought I try it .
