Replaced rack and pinion and purple fluid was in rack
When I filled up the resevoir I noticed that the purple fluid that was filled inside the R&P has now slightly clouded/discolored the PS fluid. Should I be concerned? I assume that the purple fluid that came with the rebuilt R&P is compatible with PS fluid...

I'm assuming the fluid that was in your rack was this stuff:
http://www.royalpurple.com/power-steering-fluid.html
The website says it can be mixed with other fluids. So as long as the rack and pump aren't leaking, I think you're ok. But I'd still flush and replace with Honda power steering fluid just to be safe. Everyone says to use only Honda fluid because the pump seals are sensitive or something.

Thanks! Seriously? I thought PS fluid was PS fluid and a seal was a seal????? Can someone else chime in with regards to this? Honda gimmick to buy their brand???

I have always been told honda's require their own PS fuild. Honda says it, and my dads freind who works on cars said the same.
It's something to do with the seals in the rack.
I have never tried anything else.

It was not that hard. The biggest pain in the *** was trying to break the high side nut on the R&P for rack removal. I finally said F*ck it! and cut the line. I ended up having to buy a new PS high side line, but after dicking with trying to remove the line nut for over 3 HOURS!!! I figured cutting was my best option.
Basically you remove the lines, pull the stiffener plate, unbolt the exhaust at the cat and down pipe (I did not remove the exhaust completely as I was able to fish the rack and pinion through the area where the down pipe and cat bolt together. Compress the driver side and push the passenger side up, and then swing the driver side up over the frame, attach the lines, and bolt up. I was able to do it in a day, and would have finished a lot sooner had it not been for the damn high side line nut stuck in the old R&P body. You also have to disconnect the steering joint (easy) under the dash - make sure you mark the position of the steering wheel, thread count on tie rods, and you should be able to line everything up on assembly. Oh, and pull the negative cable so as not to set off the airbag, at least thats what I was told...

I've seen what happens when people use ATF or regular P/S in a Honda, it will blow seals in the pump and the rack. Even the aftermarket makes a honda/acura specific P/S fluid so that should tell you that it's different.

OK, I see where Prestone makes a Honda approved fluid. Is Royal Purple an acceptable option???? Finally, how do I flush the system? I really do not want to disconnect anything off of the rack itself. Can it be done via the resevoir???? Thanks!!!!!
