what type of oil for ac?
89 civic- replaced evaporator with one that uses r134, so the expansion valve is r134 specific. And the drier is also for that. Also the condensor( came with the car that had 134 in it) I believe is134 but i could be wrong.
I am using stock high and low pressure lines that came in my 89 and stock compressor.
Now according to this link http://www.techchoiceparts.com/refrigerant-and-oil-capacities/efgh
It says refrigerent is originally r12 and requires 33 oz of it and uses mineral oil.
Now my question is how much r134 do I use in my system? And what compressor oil do I use ( the pag6?)?
If this has been answered, sorry and if you could post the thread that wouls be very helpful, thanks.

Re: what type of oil for ac?
From what I read is that its best to use ester oil( pag) with 134 because of what 134 is made of. This info is applied to a sanden r12system retrofitted to 134, but mine is a mitsoshua or whatever, so idk if the same things apply.

Use ester oil. 6OZ total for a 100% drained Sanden system. R134 you use less gas than R-12, about 24-26 oz.
ESTER oil is for R-134 retrofits as it is compatible with the R-12's mineral oil. I believe the PAG's are used when your car was originally R-134.

Re: what type of oil for ac?
Ok thx for the info. Im draining my compressor of oil by tiliting it, and wanted to know if I should add 2 oz to the high side and 2oz to the low while my compressor is off the car?
Or should I vacuum the system, then before refilling with freon, should I add the oil using the 3rd yellow hose?

Ok I vacuumed the system about an hour. The low side gauge reads at 21hg and the high side is at 0. The high side was below 0 while vacuuming but after sitting its at 0. Is 21 hg too low? Does it mean theres a small leak??

Re: what type of oil for ac?
if there is a small leak its probably just a oring some wehre better just to use R134 with some kind of leak sealer. i also like to add dye into my refr or buy it with it already in so i can find future leaks.

Did you shut the ***** at the manifold and let it sit ? I found my vacuum had a leak in it and without shutting off the manifold ***** it would leak through the vacuum, but my system was actually leak free.

Re: what type of oil for ac?
I did shut them closed. To explain better, with the ***** off, hooked up to the pump, i turned the pump on then opened just the Low side, it reached 28hg in, which I think is what its suppose to be at. Then I opened the high side **** and the low side droppsd to 22 and the high side gauge went below 0. Then I shut both valves closed and turned the pump off. I watched the gauges, the low side sat at 22 but the high side immidiately went from being below 0 to staying at 0.
