SRS light won't reset
Just changed the steering column in my sons 95 Civic thinking that a wrecked car probably had a good clock spring. Not. SRS light still on and horn won't work. Bought one off Ebay and the horn works but SRS light is still on and won't reset using the paperclip trick. After fighting the light all afternoon I gave up. After walking away I got to wondering if the driver seat being out of the car would screw things up. I am too old and stiff to get under the dash with the seat in. Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing?

Re: SRS light won't reset
I used the paper clip and the yellow connector next to the steering column. I did what several folks on youtube did with success. With the connector jumped I turned on the ignition and waited for the light to go off and it never did. I used the wire that has a socket but doesn't actually plug into anything. It seems like the clock spring is probably good since the horn works well. I would appreciate any suggestions you can offer. I think maybe I am getting too old to work on little cars except that we have four Honda's in the immediate family and they are great cars.

Re: SRS light won't reset
Being a computer idiot I don't know how to do post pictures or video. The basic process was jump the connector with a paper clip, turn on the ignition and wait for the light to go off then unplug the jumper and it goes back on, then jump it again and it goes off then unplug the jumper and the light flashes twice and you are finished. Turn the ignition off then back on and the light goes on for a few seconds(bulb test)then goes off. Unfortunately my light would never go off so I couldn't complete the whole process, Hope this helps this makes clear what I was trying to do. Thanks for trying to help.

Re: SRS light won't reset
Speedy 5966 posted what looks like a pretty complete list of SRS codes. Problem I have is the first code is 1-1 which doesn't seem to exist the second one is 5-1. I just don't see how any of this could have anything to do with a replaced clock spring. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Re: SRS light won't reset
The codes indicate a bad SRS computer (5-1) and a problem in the circuit for the airbag in the steering wheel (1-1). The latter may or may not be due to a bad clock spring or a bad airbag.

Re: SRS light won't reset
I have looked for the last hour and can't find any info on how to troubleshoot the srs module or the airbag itself. Any suggestions very much appreciated. Has anyone ever had a clock spring that allowed the horn to work but stopped the srs light from being reset? I don't want to just start throwing parts at the problem.

Re: SRS light won't reset
Code 5-1 indicates that the SRS computer is bad. It must be replaced.
For the airbag, start with the basics by checking whether it is plugged in and inspecting the wires.
The diagrams below are for 96-97 Civics. The troubleshooting should be similar but possibly not identical for the 95 Civic. Maybe somebody is willing to post similar troubleshooting diagrams for the 95 Civic, as well as the circuit diagram.

Re: SRS light won't reset
Thanks to RONJ@HT for the trouble shooting info. It looks to me like they are replacing the airbag with a two ohm resistor to simulate what the correct resistance should be through the inflator. If the light will then reset we can assume that the inflator is bad. This is assuming that the SRS module is good. Do you think that we can assume that the inflator resistance if measured with an ohmmeter would be two ohms? Thanks again for all your help. I don't really want to spend $150 for the box and special cable.

Re: SRS light won't reset
First, 96-97 are different than 92-95. I got burned buying a set from Ebay that swore it would work.
Second, Looks like 5-1 still means "Internal failure of SRS unit" "Troubleshooting or SRS unit replacement"
1-1 is " Open in the Drivers airbag inflator or increased resistance"
So, there's your problem, likely.
It says to short the drivers airbag (with the red connector), but not the passenger. Then reconnect battery and get codes again.
If 1-2 then replace airbag.
If 1-1 ... well, lets just hope its 1-2 lol.. Lots of steps for 1-1, tho it hints about the the cable reel has an open, the SRS unit is bad, or the main harness..
I have the 94 Helms, but I don't have a scanner. The removal of the unit is the same tho. I haven't been able to verify the rest yet.

Re: SRS light won't reset
I will try to tonight, tho I"d rather get good scans for everyone.
Hopefully I can borrow one soon.
With OPs having a resistor in place, I'll bet its not the right ohm, and is throwing the code because of that.

Still working on other things, but I will try to have all the pages scanned soon.
Also, myairbags did my unit, and was very helpful, even tho I couldn't get it to work then, I didn't have the manual, they went ahead and refunded their fee. I'd try them before paying a ton for a new one. IMO would be better than trying a junkyard one.
