boosting my jdm b16a with emusa turbo kit.
i'm getting my car prepared for the emusa boost kit. i'm only putting it on to have fun with for a little, and id like to not blow up my motor. the motor has no internals done to it at all. i have a skunk 2 pro series intake manifold that i was going to put on it while installing the kit. i was wondering what kind of feedback you guys have for me on what to do to go about not blowing up my motor with this kit. i want to run about 10 pounds of boost. i was going to get the oem k20 injectors and a walboro 255 fuel pump. my car is chipped and has a aftermarket ecu i believe. theres a box on the passenger side floor against the fender wall that says hasport performance. so im guessing thats my computer. but please give me advice!!

the best way to describe it is..... well, not to use the EMUSA kit at all. that's pretty much how we avoid blowing those engines up. You've got everything else up to par, then you go on a buy that stuff? C'mon.. be prepared and Don't buy the EMUSA.

i used to put on on a customer car; B16A2
the oil feed line is bad, the fitting are so weak
the return is not a good quality one
the waste gate died after 1000km, internal leak
we decide to change the turbo before he break, and went for a garret

it really depends.
these kits are like a hit or a miss.
i've seen some last for 2yrs plus with this kit.
and some in less than a year.

I found this webpage helpful when I was considering an ebay kit: http://www.spdweb.net/index.php?opti...d=76&Itemid=73

I like ebay turbo kits....
Just dont use the wastegate they give you if you want to improve the reliability of everything... and also go through the proper steps to install the thing.. Check for leaks, upgrade junky parts, etc.... If the oil line looks like its going to fall apart... get a new one. You are probably still going to be into the project cheaper if you upgrade the few things you need to upgrade vs buying some off the shelf $2500 turbo setup that does the same thing.

if keeping it under whats reachable with the kit and properly tuned you wont be buying two kits.... I plan on giving mine hell. I still figured a tial wg was needed everything else should be ok. the bov is questionable a knock off ssqv

Re: boosting my jdm b16a with emusa turbo kit.
after reading all this i was thinking about just running it on like 7lbs of boost. i dont want to blow my motor up and i dont want to waste money. im only going to have it on for a year at the most.

Sell the skunk 2 manifold for extra money to get a real kit,
Make your own kit only eBay part I would use is intercooler and piping
You could find parts here pretty cheap

im with u on this, dont expect an ebay kit to be the same as a go autoworks kit but it will work, mine is holding up just fine, i did not use the bov cuz it looked pretty crappy and i will likely replace the wastegate this year but so far so good. oil feed was a nice stainless npt line worked great the only other issue i had was the downpipe they sent was backwards, pointing out the front bumper but no biggie i just made my own. i really really believe that the usual type of person to buy the cheap kits are usually ricers that have no idea what theyre doing and more than half of the failures on these kits are installation error. i am upgrading my setup piece by piece but my kit was a cheap way to get me boosted and i have no regrets buying it.

its purely installer error ive gone over everything! its as basic as it comes putting it together. none of those kits are ever bolt on you need to own a shop or have one close by but once its fabbed up right its either the turbo ***** or it doesnt.

Re: boosting my jdm b16a with emusa turbo kit.
I recently just purchased a used ebay kit that was for a single slammer. Some of the above post are correct the turbos either work or they don't, luckily the kit that I bought was only used for about 50 miles. I upgraded the manifold (b series), intercooler and wastegate. I purchased a log style manifold off of ebay for $40.00 and a bigger intercooler off of ebay for $40.00. I bought a used tial waste gate and better oil lines and slapped it all together. I'm very happy with my purchase because I have less than $500.00 in the entire setup. I ended up putting down 360 hp at 14lbs and that was with a 50 trim turbo!! Whenever the turbo decides that it doesn't want to work anymore I'm going to swap it out for a 60-1 Garrett. If you buy one of these kits your taking a chance. I'm glad I did it just make sure that you upgrade the essential parts like the waste gate, and oil lines at the least. Once I purchased my tial wastegate and did a comparison I could see why the ebay waste gate is inferior. The ebay waste gate diaphram is made out of a paper like material where the tial and other name brand diaphrams are made from some type of rubber like material and thus last much longer. Do whatever makes you happy just make sure that if you buy this kit upgrade the essential parts before you put it on and whatever you do don't buy the ebay kits that come with the chrome tubular turbo manifolds. Stick with the log cast style manifold.

Re: boosting my jdm b16a with emusa turbo kit.
my ebay ramhorn is holding up well. also the one i installed almost 4 years ago now was a mini ram style sort of and its still kickin, they dont use schedule 10 pipe for the manifolds so they are most definately weaker but if u look over all the welds u should be able to see weak spots before installation and just have them beefed up. there is no comparison between them and say full race or go autoworks but like i always say they work.
