Re: Budget Header Showdown - Replica Headers vs. Skunk2 Alpha 1.8L Dyno Test
I want to know, in the op's opinion, are the headers he tested still a viable option for a "built" motor upwards of 220whp vs. a bone stock ITR engine. 180whp and 220whp is a big difference on a N/A 1.8L motor. No need to be a smartass, if you have knowlegable answer to the question then by all means let us read it. I'm not asking him to get his crystal ball out and predict how much hp each will gain over the other, simply if they are a feasible choice.

This engine has a PLM TA header on it (Toda Fakie)....... FYI the butt connectors on the injectors were for dyno purposes only the wires were cut off when the engine was removed from the test chassis.

thumbs up to you mikey!
I think this is why skunk2 took down the their dynos on their website now(for the alpha b-series compared to all these headers).
It was posted up on their website a few days ago.
BUM BUM BUM The truth is out.

Badass set up, guess that proves the toda fakie is a pretty damn good header. 257/162 are some serious power numbers.

I have an RMF Replica and ground clearance is terrible. On a CRX you have to notch the front cross member pretty heavily and you have about 3in of ground clearance to the bottom of the header at a proper ride height.

On the Road Racing 84.5 x 89 race engine, where are the two black lines going from the back of the block? Are they venting crankcase pressure from the two ports on the back of the block? Was it dyno'd with the simple short ram intake as shown in the picture?

Re: Budget Header Showdown - Replica Headers vs. Skunk2 Alpha 1.8L Dyno Test
ive been reading up on mikeyspec's past skunk2 alpha header vs rep header dynos on both the 2.0l and on the stock itr motor. ive been debating on either the skunk2 alpha and the plm toda rep. does anybody know the exact specs on the diameter of the primary and secondary runners on the plm toda rep? im wondering if its a copy of the itr toda or the b16b toda header.
B18C: 45mm -> 50mm -> Taper -> 60mm?
B16B: 45mm -> 48mm -> Taper -> 60mm?
which one?

Re: Budget Header Showdown - Replica Headers vs. Skunk2 Alpha 1.8L Dyno Test
well the weather cleared in austin, got a new Excedy (sp) clutch, the alpa header, and a new 70mm exhaust with a dynomax chambered muffler all on my Type R with stage 1 skunk2 cams. Did a GTEC run got 14.13 in the 1/4 my GTech gives what I get in the real 1/4. Not bad, bout .5 faster than my last setup: slipping cheap EBay clutch, JDM 4 to 1 (Yonaka), JDM style Cat and stock Type R exhaust. VTEC kick seems very mutted, almost not there. I was going to run the header first, but it was like 1/4 too short so I don't have a header only swap run... don't know what gives as my Yonaka 4 to 1 and my OEM JDM 96 Type R manifold and down pipe are the same lenght. I know the Toda docome in two lengths?? dunno.

Re: Budget Header Showdown - Replica Headers vs. Skunk2 Alpha 1.8L Dyno Test
Actually from looking at all the graphs the header with the most gains overall is actually the hytech replica. yeh it makes a whole 1hp less peak over the toda but it has quite a bit of midrange over the skunk2 and the toda.
I think from 3000rpm to redline you would get there quicker with the hytech.
However race motors will be above 6000rpm ALWAYS, this is where either the toda or hytech, wins, not the skunk2 from what I can see?
These tests are so close anyhow, 1HP is NOTHING! I think hytech comes on top with REAL gains over the others, quite a few HP in the midrange, and basically the same after 6k as the toda.

Great comparison, thumbs up again for mikey!
Since these are all PLM headers, i thought id ask, has anyone had problems with quality from PLM?
I have the PLM bisi v2 copy on my built b18c and it cracked in **** after 2 days.........

This makes me even happier that I have a TODA Racing header. Not a replica or fake, the real deal.

I damn near get a Semi everytime I see this graph. What you guys have done with all of your IM research, headwork and camshaft choices combined with the tuning speaks volumes for King Motorsports. Sure it may not have the highest peak number, but I would bet quite a bit of money that you will not find a more usable and stable powerband out of a 2 liter than this one.
