-Poor man Type R motor build up?-
So lately I've been running through a lot of builds I had in mind for my motor and well I think the best thing I could do to it without running into trouble with the law is to swap out my GSR head for a ITR one... I'm not too concerned with power but I would like to make a little more power without running into issues with reliability. To my knowledge is it as easy as just swapping out the complete head off of a ITR motor onto my GSR block? My bolt on plans were to just run the ITR head, stock ITR intake manifold, jdm ITR exhaust manifold with the heat shield, and to keep the motor itself "stock" looking. I've had the worst luck in the past with police officers being dicks so this time around I wanna be as legit as possible. So my question is am I right about it being that simple? If I decide to build the block/head how much hp gains can I expect compared to a stock GSR motor? Could anyone that has had a successful poor man Type R setup chime in and give me some sound advice.

Yep P30 pistons ls rods with arp rod bolts my brother that type of setup but with a b16 head and all type r internals except for skunk stage 1 cams, hondata s300 it ran good as Fu*K. I remebered he beat a EG6 with ITR motor modded and got him by like 3 car links. I have some P30 pistons already on some ls rods with arp rod bolt. I was going to do the setup but i just decided i might build a turbo setup.

I was gonna go with the poor mans but end up picking up my usdm b18c5 swap...but im still building them both...I would go with the ITR Head with p30 pistons and pro1 camshafts and buy a hondata s100 then tune and call it a day...

I was thinking about picking up a complete ITR swap but wanted my GSR block due to the VIN sticker so a cop wouldn't be able to give me ****.

b16 head will bolt right on a gsr block. remember of course b16 and gsr have different intake manifolds. no reason you can't use a DC carb legal header though, or just buy any cheap CARB legal header on craigslist and then weld that carb tab onto a hytech or something. that's what I did. get an AEM intake tube and hytech header with carb stamp on it and everything else is internal so motor looks legit and smog legal.

Here is my poormans type-r B18c block, ITR head, ITR intake manifold and JDM ITR header build.

You can get the same compression ratio from the USDM PR3 (Si) pistons and the JDM ITR pistons, 11.1:1. JDM P30 gets 11.3:1

Then he would also have to change out the crank from his Gsr to an LS crank..
I would definately throw some p30 pistons in it and go with the skunk2 pro 1's... The head will be very simple to swap out, just going to have to have the engine tuned for it, should be a great running car though.

GSR block, GSR rods, ITR head, P73-00/PR3 pistons (11.1:1) or P30 pistons (11.3:1), tune, have fun....
Did you look at my pics via the link above? All that is in it...

Re: -Poor man Type R motor build up?-
Just spoke to a buddy of mine who builds Honda's for a living and he told me to put on a B16 head w/ CTR cams and an ITR manifold after explaining to him my goals and reasons behind it. Said to p/p the B16 head and do all the valves and springs(build the head), etc... Said a setup like that would give me some decent gains in hp and won't hurt the motor to boost later.

a b16 head is the same as a Type R head, only thing different is the type r heads come with bigger cams, dual valve springs on intake and exhaust sides, and have a slight port job from factory. If you are building the head then I would just buy a stock b16 head and get cams and such for it individually..

There is a member on here that had a USDM GSR/P30s/Pro1/Sk2IM and made 211whp. He had the motor for a while before he snapped a rod but I do not know of the circumstances that caused this. Here is a video of the run.
