Default Cooling Problem/Check Engine

I have 2002 Accord 4 cyl ULEV. I had to replace the radiator and fan/front end due to an accident.

New to this, seemed easy enough. I went by a guide here and failed to

find a bleeder valve in the location specified. Then I read that later Hondas

bleed through the radiator cap. The car had been run a total of about 5

minutes a couple of times to move it with no coolant prior to my attempt to

fill the new cooling system. The last time I ran it, it was doing this weird idle

where it cycles between 1000 and 2000 rpm. I'm filling the radiator with it

running, trying to bleed it through the cap when its starts doing a sort of

violent surging idle between 1000 and 1200. Thats when I notice the

maintenance and check engine light have come on. The heater is making a

really loud vibration. I turned the car off, and a few minutes later find the

bleeder valve in a different location than the guide I was using. I am

going to try again with the bleeder open.

Will I be able to clear the check engine and maintenance lights ? Is there

anything else I should be concerned about ? The temperature gauge never

got past halfway. Actually, Ive never seen it past halfway, but it gets there

so quick I don't trust it. Also the fan never came on, and I have not seen the

new fan come on yet. Its a cheapo replacement, but I have the original and

harness, the shroud was destroyed. Im not to happy about this as Ive

begged borrowed and stolen to get this far with it. Thanks in advance for

info you might have to offer .

your check engine and maintenance lights are different... you'll have to pull the codes and see what you got and go from there..most likely, its related to your temp. problem. you may also have an idle issue such as p0505 idle air control malfunction...
make sure you have coolant all the way to the top tank/ or fill neck of the radiator and run the vehicle...wait for the fans to cycle twice and top off coolant as neccessary...if you feel that its taking too long and the fans are not coming on, check both your hoses...simply touch the top hose and then the bottom radiator hose. they should both be warm or kinda hot...if one is warm/hot and the other is cold, then you have a circulation problem...

I would love to wait for the fan to cycle, but the idle is too scary. I have not seen the fan move yet. How long does it normally take for it to come on?

I reset the ECU and it ran normally for a couple of minutes till it got warm and then it started with the weird idle again. Reset it again and it started doing it right away because it was hot. It is a very regular pulsing between 1000 and 2000 rpm, which a couple of minutes later becomes irregular fluctuations.

The car ran perfectly before the accident, and I cant imagine what might
have been damaged besides the obvious. The car sat for a year after the wreck.

I tried filling it again with the bleeder open, and I believe I got the air out.

Must have a damaged sensor of some kind ? The idle seems to the
computers response to temperature. Massive air bubble still ? Why is the heater so loud ? What about coolant could cause that ?

I'm going to try and get codes but am confused as hell about how to get them. The sticky on OBD codes is missing pics and doesn't explain where to get the numbers. If you jump the OBD harness what am I then looking for ?

Id drive it to autozone if it didnt have the surging idle. I just got plates and insurance for thing yesterday and thought this would be a no-brainer. Don't have the cash to take it to a shop. Hoping to to hear from someone who has experienced something similar. I've never had any trouble from this Honda, or my previous 2 until now. Thanks

Yes, I have a P0505 error code. Bad IACV, bad connection to it, or large vacuum leak. That would cause a check engine light ? I'm checking the vaccum hoses, I can't find a leak. Cooling system is working, fans are cycling, has been bleed thoroughly, its not overheating, as least as far as the dash gauge is concerned.

Still a surging idle between 1000 and 2000 when cold, and goes to 1000 and 1300 when warm. Going to try, and clean my IACV, is that it between the intake, and firewall ? I tried unplugging it for a minute, and it didn't seem to make a difference.

What about the thermostat? Could be just a coincidence, but I had an old 88 Accord years ago with surging RPM's and heating/cooling issues, and by replacing the thermostat everything seemed to clear up..
