After completely rebuilding this D15B2 engine including replacing the timing belt I found it impossible to advance the timing by turning the distributor to reach the recommended timing setting of 18 degrees BTDC. There are three grooves in the crankshaft pulley and the shop manual recommends setting the timing at the middle groove.The maximum advance I can achieve is the first of the three grooves in the crankshaft pulley.
I suspect I have installed the camshaft one tooth too late in relation to the the timing belt but I would appreciate the advice of other mechanics before redoing that job.
This is an interference engine. However it runs well and is quiet so I don't think any of the valves have been damaged by hitting the top of the pistons. I have not driven the car since I discovered the problem with the ignition timing.
