~sigh~ I have my engine and tranny all ready to go, but winter is around the corner and it's been getting a lot cooler out lately. I was hoping to get a second set of hands and spend a couple days sapping over, but might not happen till spring...being i don't drive the car for winter anyway.
Small update though I've been researching a lot about sway bar upgrades and sub frame braces, then ran across a deal for $180 on this Function 7 brace, so i picked it up. It's actually a pretty impressive part and so simple as it's a one piece billet making install a snap.
I thought i'd share a couple of close up pic's to show other's what i mean....it's nice that the mounting bolts for the brace itself are counter sunk

My car has new oem LCA's. They are one of the few parts that imo are better than all other after market options...especially a street car! If you read the fine print on most companies selling the blingy models, you will see that they are not recommended for street use. They have major disadvantages if ever involved in an accident which could cause much more damage to your car if that area is involved.
Also, for as many people that complain about bushing problems on oem arm after a few years of use, they are much much more common for problems with cheaper brands like Skunk2, Blox, ans so on. There is No advantages for me to buy a non oem set!! Even Function 7 says not to use their arms on your street car
A subframe brace on the other hand is another story. It had a purposeful advantage being added to any car adding strength to a weak part of a stock suspension allowing for more rigidity to the chassis, and many options for rear sway bar upgrades with out the worry of damaging the stock rear lower subframe from added stress of a stiffer suspension in hard corners

P.S. Our arms come with a lifetime warranty that covers bushings too, so if you're worried about bushings going bad, we will cover ours.
P.P.S. Thanks for the comments on our products!

Good pickup for $180. I'm just checking in - I see you got the bolts etc and wondering did you received the backing plates for the brace. If you need them, give us a shout.

I did get the backing plates too, but can't use them as my car doesn't use them, i have the EM1 model which in Canada is a Civic SiR and known in the USA as the Si model which already has a rear sway bar and mounting spots, not requiring the backing plates

OEM is good...but if you did go aftermarket F7 is the only way to be. Alot of the others are real hit and miss. Build is looking good man.

OK, more tech time
"This applies to EK generation civic's only"
Like many others, i decided to go with a usdm ITR (22MM) rear sway bar to match up with the subframe brace as a good and comfortable upgrade. The one thing i over looked on the Type R sway bar, was the size of the opening where the end link goes, as it's much larger than the civic one
So i did some checking around with different options regarding different end links. I just bought brand new Si rear links last summer, they are still like brand new, and i wasn't crazy about spending more cash to replace them with after market spherical end links if i didn't have too. As it turns out, there are two different styles are aluminum spacer bushings sold on the market that i could find that fit into the ITR sway bar......
- one is a domed style. It works well, but for sure requires a new pair of end links with longer studs, so they can pass all of the way through, allowing a nut to be attached on the other side
- the other style is skinnier, and fits further into the end of the sway bar, allowing you to be able to reuse (if you already have them), the stock oem Honda Si end links. Cost $20 -this is the option i went with-
Here are the notes that go along with this style of collar bushing......
or all those want to install an Integra type R rear sway bar (ITR) on their Civic 96-2000 (EK, EJ, EL).
These sway bar endlink adapter insert allows the use of the Honda Civic Si (Sir) link kit 99-2000 with the Integra type R sway bar on all model of Civic 96-2000.
These stainless steel insert that basiclly act as metal bushings for your sway bar.
After market end linkage kit can be use, the stainless steel endlink
adapter insert hole is 10 mm (.398'').
Made of stainless steel for rust free.

Re: 2000 Civic SiR EM1 project- Vogue Silver
Wow great build with lots of wonderful information...I just bought myself another VSM SiR has a blown motor and needs some TLC but other than that the interior is in mint condition.
I bought a VSM SiR brand new in 2000 and still have it but had painted it when i was involved with car shows, currently rebuilding it again aswell but i wanted to have an original one as they are becoming more and more rare everyday.
The only thing I question is why would you put an Si badge on instead of ordering a new SiR badge....to each there own but i was just curious

That is cool you have one too, do you have a link to any info on it at all?
As far as the "Si" badge goes, there are a few reasons i changed it over.
- i liked the look of it
- sometimes, i don't mind if people think it's just a Canadian Si
- the original SiR emblem didn't appeal to me
(but, i do have an extra original emblem to keep for the long run if i so decide)
