Del Sol Custom Sub Box- 10s and 12s
Hello all Im Kenn. New to the site. I have a new sub box design for the Del Sol. A solution to the options and space restrictions of the vehicle. This box as shown has a single 12" sealed, sits nicely between the rear speakers and just under the back glass.
I have to do the final finish on the box and hope to get them posted in the next two days. Please feel free to comment on the post as feed back from del sol owners will allow me to tweak this design even further. I have tried it with dual 12s and even triple 10s. A awesome SQ set up that delivers massive amounts of bass.

i built a box for a cvr kicker and if i lay id down with the sub facing up it works perfectly in the trunk. I can even put my top in the trunk with no clearance issues. Just my .02. James

Re: Del Sol Custom Sub Box- 10s and 12s
My amps are under the floor in the trunk and subs behind the seats replacing the useless storage boxes.
A pair of ported 8s works nicely too where the storage boxes used to be. It's a little like being punched in the back.
A large visible subwoofer probably won't last too long in most large cities. The 10s can probably hide behind the seats, but that 12 just screams "look at me" right there.
Definitely nice work though. My next one will probably be fiberglass to save a little more space and get rid of some corners.

Was it built from 3/4" HD board? It does make a difference. Also, if you are tight on interior box room, you can always "trick" the box into believing its bigger by stuffing the hell out of the box with pillow stuffing found at fabric stores, Walmart, etc.
If you are concerned about people seeing the subs, you can always make a "top" in the hatch back area that will cover the sub box. Take some cardboard, cut out a pattern that goes all the way around the sides of the cargo area, up to the rear seat, so that the cardboard looks like a table top in the rear area. Take the pattern, once you get it tight, no gaps, etc. and transfer it onto 1/8 - 3/16" fiber board. Cut it out. Take some fabric that matches your interior and some 3/4" foam. Glue the foam on top of the fiber board and trim so that its flush with the edges. Get some heavy duty, quick drying glue. Take your fabric and cut it out so that its bigger than the fiber board by about 4" inches.
Start at the top and lay your fabric over the fiber board, and glue the excess behind the board. Once gluw sets keep working your way around until the fabric is snug over the foam padding. Once done you just place the "lid" over the cargo area space, and over the box so no one can see it. Doesn't affect sound, etc...

I have found installs in the trunk of the Del Sol lead to all sorts of problems down the line. The bass not being able to be heard is just the tip of the iceberg. Convertibles have seals that are very easily blown out with a decent spl level. JL even goes further with the stealth box, it requires that you block off the areas that lead to the trunk.
The car that the box will be installed in is a show vehicle. So theft is not a issue at all. My goal in the build was to produce a box that could house a 12", sound good and fit snug in the back of the vehicle. The amp will be installed under the box. (The passenger side)

Del Sol Custom Sub Box- New Pic
Some new pics of the box with sealer, ready for finish.. The box will be bolted down after all panels have been treated with noise killer and holes leading to trunk have been filled. As shown with a single 12" sells for 200.00, dual 12" is 250.00.
Also can be modified to fits 10s, Can even get 3 10s in the set up.. Shipping and delivery is available.

I would need to see picks of it inside the car to be honest. I am very interested though. Maybe you should try doing a knock off of the stealth box. I am guessing that the rear compartments would be unusable with this anyway.

I know a professional sub box builder that will build anything you want for any speaker for a great price. He uses custom software to design your box with the best acoustics for the space you have available in your ride.

A new picture of the del sol 12" box. I will post pictures of a dual 10" down fire in the next week.
After some tweaking in car, the single 12" Alpine R sounded AMAZING. The bass was clear and loud. Lots of DBs even at high volumes, but at the same time remained tight and even.
The next stage will be a 3 part trim kit to give the new box a completed custom installation. Ill keep you all posted as I have time to work on them.
