Default Shift **** won't thread on?

So my girlfriend has an '02 civic EX coupe and it came with a very poor quality shift **** from AutoZone (VatoZone), the kind with the 3 screws that screw down onto the shifter, and always come loose. Anyways, we bought an OEM one from our local dealer, $13, not too bad. Got it and it wouldn't thread on, the threads inside the shift **** were way to small in diameter. The shifter is much bigger than the hole inside the shift ****. So, I tried out the shift **** on my friends car from his '03 DX coupe, and it worked perfectly. So, I went to Honda and asked to return it, they said it was probably just a bad ****. So they ordered me a new one, finally got it, and it won't thread on. What is going on here? I'm guessing an '03 DX **** will fit, but I don't want to go through this again. Anyone have any idea why this would happen? Maybe someone actually replaced the shifter on her car? Thanks for any input in advance!

are you sure it's not an aftermarket shifter arm?

I'm not positive, but why did the '03 DX shift **** work? I mean it could very well be the shifter, but that's why I'm asking you guys on HT, wondering if anyone else can think of any other possibility?

The shift **** for the 2003 DX should be the same as the 2002 EX, as it shows the same Honda part number: 54102-S5A-003ZA.

Compare the DX one with the OEM EX shift know to see if there is a difference. You may want to take pictures and post to show the comparison.

The only thing I could think of, is that the used **** probably has a little more wear on the threads internally, which would make it thread on easier to some boogered threads.

if they put that cheap shift **** on, they might have messed up the threads, almost every Honda I've ever seen has the same threads, you may have to get a die and chase it

are you lining up the locking tabs right? if they arent going in right the threads won't go up far enough to thread into the ****, push the boot all the way down and see if it threads on, can you take sharp close ups? take one of the threads on yours

Sorry for no response, I appreciate the help, I will be getting a picture tomorrow hopefully, I just haven't had my girlfriend's car with me since I posted this. Will get pics ASAP though! Thank you! A

Also, I don't think the old shift **** ruined the threads because for one, my friend's shift **** worked fine on it and two, the old shift **** didn't make use of the threads.
