Default 1998 Keyless Entry Control Unit

I've had problems with my keyless entry system in an 98 EX for the last few years. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. It mainly has problems when it's cold outside. I'd like to replace the receiver Control Unit in the car, but can't find a part number to order. Does anyone have the PN for the receiver? Barring that, can I use the LX Keyless upgrade kit receiver?

Thanks,
Michael

EX models didn't have a separate control unit for the keyless entry system. It was integrated into other systems, although i never bothered to figure out which one(s). An LX with the optional keyless entry used a dealer add-on system, and AFAIK is not compatable with the EX's system.

Yeah the EX keyless entry is built into the multiplex system

have you tried replacing the batteries in the transmitter?

Yep, I've tried both Key FOB's (transmitters) and new batteries. No Change. I always get a red LED flash on the transmitter when pushing buttons.

Yesterday I had a weird problem that hasn't appeared before. I went out in the morning to crank the car, the doors wouldn't unlock with the transmitter, so I unlocked the door with the key...soon after the EX security alarm went off and I couldn't get it stopped. Cranking the car didn't help and the only way I was able to silence the alarm was to pull the battery cable. Wow is that horn loud. That afternoon when I got home from work, I reconnected the battery and the alarm immediately started again, but this time the transmitter worked and I was able to disable the alarm.

That was enough, I'm now ready to throw money at the problem and ordered both the driver AND passenger side Multiplex controllers.... I have a document showing how to get to the passenger side unit, but not the driver side controller....hopefully it won't be too difficult.

Well, I've now replaced all three multiplex computers and the problem still persists.

I replaced the right kick-panel one first, then the left kick-panel one. The last one was in the driver side door that includes all the windows switches. So far, I've found that when it doesn't work, I can unlock the trunk with the remote, and then the doors will unlock. VERY VERY STRANGE. It's got to be a sensor in the the door.

I've put new batteries in both Key FOBs just to make sure.

I hope you are not spending money replacing those factory control boxes. You can get a key less entry installed at any good car shop for around $125. Or you can upgrade to a security system for about $300.
