FIT Front Wheel Bearing, Loose but NO NOISE
My wife's 2011 Fit has a loose LF wheel bearing. Bottom of tire moves about 1/4" in and out when jacked up. Checked axle nut (and lug nuts) and everything is tight.
Thought wheel bearing was going, but absolutely quiet when driving.
RF has no play.
Any thoughts? She wants to take a 200 mile trip this weekend, and I am afraid.
Thanks

BE afraid very afraid. Just because it's not making noise doesn't mean it's not TOTALLY GONZO. 1/4 inch play is too much.

Thanks Claymore,
I am a former mechanic with all the basic tools. Replacing bearing is no problem, but range of prices tells me there is a range of quality.
Can you suggest a good source for a quality bearing? I shop at O'Reilly's a lot.
Thanks for your feedback

Boy that is a tough one as recently most of the bearings offered are coming in from china and they are junk.
I'm not sure on the 2011 model year but older ones had a problem with wheel bearings and there was a "hidden warranty" (not generally told to the public) you may save some money by taking it to the dealer to ask about that.
If not I would get the bearing while I was there.
