Hi friends,
I have the 1995 Honda Accord EX and the SRS indicator light came on for no reason and stayed on after reset. (Note, I followed the reset instruction abtained online.) It's been over a year already. Could you please send me SRS section from the Shop Manual. I really appreciate it.

Thanks & regards,
LPP.

My '95 Accord has the SRS light on. Stayed on one day after the car had been sitting for a few weeks. I was told a low voltage situation or weak battery could have triggered it and a reset may be all that is needed. Is it possible to set off the airbags while doing the reset procedure?

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait for ten seconds.
2. Connect a short to the Memeory Erase Signal (MES) connector.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
4. The SRS indicator light comes on for about six seconds and then goes off. Remove the short from the MES connecotr within four seconds after the SRS indicator light went off.
5. The SRS indicaotr light comes on again. Reconnect the short to the MES connector within four seconds after the SRS indicator light comes on.
6. The SRS indicator light goes off. Remove the short from the MES connector within four seconds.
7. The SRS indicator light indicates that the memory is erased by blinking two times.

The ten second delay at the beginning is very important or the memory will not reset.

Secondly, on a '96 Accord (not sure about a '95) you can read the SRS Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) by shorting the Service Check Connector (it is the 2 pin connector) behind the glovebox. It has a 3 pin data link connector adjacent to it. Do not short the anything on the 3 pin connector, could ruin your ECU.

SRS DTC Process is:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait ten seconds. Then connect the short to the service check connector (2 pin).
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). The SRS indicator light comes on for six seconds and goes off. Then it will indicate the DTC.
- The DTC consists of a main code (long blinks) and a subcode (short blinks).
- Including the most recent problem, up to three different malfunctions can be indicated.
- In case of a continuous failure, the DTC will be indicated repeatly.
- In case of an intermittent failure, the DTC will be indicated one time, then the light will stay on
- In case the system is normal (no DTC), the SRS indicator will stay on

DTCs that have a main code of 5, 6, 7, 8, or 10 require a new SRS unit. Main codes of 1 (driver side airbag), 2 (passenger side airbag), and 9 ((power supply) require other troubleshooting.

Thirdly, to answer your link question, the SRS unit is mounted dead center on the floorboard near the firewall (behind the radio). Best access is through the glove box opening. You can trace back to the SRS unit from the passenger side airbag wire. There are no external sensors, the impact sensor is internal to the SRS unit.

Finally and most importantly, before making or breaking any of the SRS connections to the SRS unit or either airbag, disconnect both the positive and negative battery terminals and wait a minimum of 3 minutes (wait 10 minutes to be safe) to allow the SRS system to discharge. You do not want accidently set off one of the airbags. If the close range airbag discharge doesn't kill you, the price of a new airbag might.

Good Luck

The light comes on for a reason.

If it's on after a reset it means you........haven't fixed the problem.

it took me 3 or 4 times before I got the timing of the sequence just right. Not that the light came back, but rather that it didn't go off because I didn't reset it properly.

Re: 95 Accord Last summer Honda said SRS control module should be replaced. Got one at the wreckers and despite not doing the reset at the time of replacement, it worked for a month and then the light came back on. Now, 11 months later I tried the reset and light is still on. Suggestions?

How would you create a short? Where would you connect the metal piece to?

Just found this ....http://www.myairbags.com/ could be another choice if you don't want to put your hands to work
Here's more info

An SCS Service Connector is used to reset your SRS light, which every Honda owner will eventually end up having to do. The dealer charges anywhere from $65 to $95 to do this, I'll show you how to do it for under $10.00. First you need to go to Best Buy or Circuit City and pick up some late model Honda speaker harnesses by Metra. The Metra model number is 72-7802. Cut the female disconnects off the ends of the speaker harnesses and strip about a half inch of jacket off of the wire. Twist the wire together and tape up the bare wire, you now have an SCS Service Connector for quite a but less than what Honda would have charged for one.

Now I'll show you how to reset the light. We've already done the 1st step by making the SCS Connector.
You'll need to find the MES (Memory Erase Signal) connector.
It is a yellow connector with two wires in it that is plugged into the back of the driver's side fuse box, unplug it and pull it down. Once you have done that you can begin the process of erasing the memory. Here's a diagram for clearer understanding.

1st step in erasing the memory is to turn the ignition off and connect the SCS Service connector to the MES Plug.

2nd Turn the Ignition on. SRS Indicator light will come on for about 6 seconds then go off.

3rd Disconnect SCS service connector for MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS indicator light goes off. SRS indicator light will come on again.

4th Reconnect SCS service connector the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS light comes on. SRS indicator light will go off.

5th Disconnect SCS service connector from MES connector within 4 seconds. SRS indicator light will indicate that memory is erased by blinking 2 times.

6th Turn ignition off, and wait 10 seconds. Start vehicle like normal and light should come on and go out like normal. You have reset your SRS light, congrats.

Im having the same problem. SRS light just came on for no reason. Im iffy on playing with the airbags tho dont want them to deploy while Im playing with the MES or anything. I looked under the steering cloumn today and located the yellow MES plug just hanging . So I just plug the SCS a few time to the MES plug and it erases the srs codes?

Hi All!!
I was hoping someone could help me out w/ an SRS issue on my '96 Accord.

I had taken it to a mechanic shop bc I had hit a curb pretty hard. I had the upper & lower control arms replaces along w/ the rack & pinion, rim & caliper...all on the passenger side. When I picked up the car- the SRS light was on. Is there anything they might have done that could have set it off? They supposedly reset it but it came back on.

Any information is greatly appreciated!!

If so where is the MES connector at? I tried the procedure with the blue connector located under the glove box on the passenger side with no luck. This is the connector I use to read the codes. But it it didn't seem to work for erasing the memory.

Here is a picture of the connector I used:

I don't think that is the Srs sensor on the 95 accord its a yellow connection under the driverside dash its held on by a plastic screw type rivet. The blue connector is for the ecu fuel system diagnostic

^ I thought someone said the blue one was for reading the SRS codes, and the yellow near fuse box was for clearing them.

There yu go...

Click the image to open in full size.

Here's a picture showing the location of the MES connector. In my '96 Accord Aerodeck it's yellow.

I also have a problem with SRS light. After replacing a battery to a brand new one, the light stays on. The reset procedure doesn't resolve my problem. I checked DTC, and...it blinked out "85", which means "internal SRS unit failure". Replacing SRS unit is the only thing i can do, or maybe there is a chance, that there's a broken fuse or something else?

Thanks in an advance

I am receiving 3 long flashes and 6 short flashes of my engine light when I "jump" my blue dtc connector on my passenger side connector for my 97 honda accord. Also it is repetitive, it only stops giving me the code when I take the keys out of the ignition. What does it mean? I have tried to reset the MES several times but the srs light comes on the next time I start to car. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I am trying to pass inspection in less than a month and could really use the help. Thank you in advance.

I think the picture of a blue connector posted earlier is misleading a lot of users. The SRS system diagnostic is the YELLOW connector.

The blue connector that you are using is for the ECU - you use this if you have a check engine light lit, or for problems with the engine - there are two different systems with two different lights, and two different sets of fault codes.

The airbag system diagnostics are the yellow connector. Follow the instructions posted earlier in this thread to get the SRS (airbag) system fault code. This will flash the SRS indicator on the dashboard, not the check engine light (or CEL).

If you have both the check engine light AND the SRS light lit up on your dashboard when the engine is started (and they don't go off after about 10 seconds), then you have two faults - one with the engine or its sensors, and one with the airbag system or its sensors. You need to tackle each one separately.

36 doesn't exist in the US market. Unless you have a JDM vehicle you're counting the CEL code incorrectly.

This thread is about the SRS codes which as pointed out is the yellow connector on the driver's side. The blue plug is strictly for CEL.

This is the listing of SRS codes -

http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=3111979

You'll note that 3-6 is not present there either.

[quote=PaulRi;18376347]I reset the SRS light by following the following procedure I obtained online:

1. Turn off ignition
2. Connect the SCS service connector to the 2pin wire you take out of the drivers fuse box and is now hanging from a thicker harness.
3. Turn on ignition
4. SRS light comes on for 6 sec and then goes off. Before it has been off 4 sec, Remove the SCS connector.
5.SRS light turns on again. Reconnect the SCS service connector withen 4 sec of light coming on
6. Light goes off, remove connector witeh 4 sec after light went off.
7. SRS light blibks 2 times telling you the memory is erased.
8. Turn ignition off.

In my case, the SRS light never blinked and is still present. I assume my problem is still present.

How do I pull the SRS code? I've pulled the ECU codes myself before. Is the SRS code checked and displayed using the same method as the ECU codes (blinking check engine light)? Or is there another method? If so, could you please provide the method? Thanks a lot.

FYI - same thing for me. 1995 Accord LX Sedan. SRS light will not turn off or blink when shorted when these directions are followed exactly. I thought I must have a trouble code, so went to the pass side to check the DTC. Guess what? When the DTC is shorted the SRS light comes on and stays on. Never goes out, never blinks. Looks like I have to take my car to a dealer so they can use their fancy harness to diagnose my problem. I would drive the car as-is, but I plan to start my 15 year-old daughter driving this car - BUT ONLY IF I KNOW THE SRS WORKS. Crap.
