10" Alpine Type R Sub, Stock HU and speakers
How do i get it done. The car is completely stock and have to keep it that way. I commute with the car 1 hour and a half to work 4 times a week and will get the car taken away if I upgrade the speakers and head unit. I bought the sub from a crack head, in for $30! I had to jump on it! Oh! I need a "PORTED?" box for it. I dont know crap about audio. What do i have to buy? I'm also gonna need cables for all this stuff right? Thanks for your help guys. I know this is a huge no no, but please keep it friendly in here!

you need an amp, a box, (power wire, ground wire, fuse holder with fuse, remote turn on wire, rca cables, all can be purchased in an amplifier wire kit.) and a line output converter. what kind of car and what ohm voice coils would also help.

What about the Box that holds the actual sub? How do i choose one? The guy said something about it needing to be ported... But his car looked all hacked up. So I'm not to sure if he knows what he's talking about or not.
Also... Is there a specific wiring kit you suggest? I only have the sub itself and am purchasing the amp sometime next week.

a custom ported box built for that sub will sound the loudest. but a pre-fab box also works well. just stay away from the cheap built 1/2 inch thick boxes. They just eventually fall apart

Is there any pre fabbed boxes that aren't too bad/pretty close for that box?
Also... I Just found out that the sub I have is a " dual 4 ohm". how do I pick the Amp for this?
It's 500w rms.
And how do I control the bass level once installed?

Some amps have a "bass ****" that you can use to control the bass boost. You can also control it with the hu, or you can just set it to whatever you want on the amp itself.
Q-logic boxes looked alright when I last saw them (about 4 years ago). The ones I saw were I think 3/4in mdf and were sealed with caulk on the inside.
If you are skilled with wood I would recommend building one.

Re: 10" Alpine Type R Sub, Stock HU and speakers
since this thing has dual 4ohm thingamabobs, I heard that there are two ways to wire them up...
possitive to positive and negative to negative. With the Positive and negative from
one coil going to the amp (i guess its called inline?).
and crossed with a possitive from one coil to the amp
and a negative from the other coil to the amp.
Do I really have a choice? If so.... Which one sounds better?
How do I wire this up?

You can wire them to 8ohms too but you probably won't be able to find a 500wrms 8ohm amp anyway.

Re: 10" Alpine Type R Sub, Stock HU and speakers
you need to get the wires based on the size of the amp if the wire is too small it wont get as much juice an could burn up, make sure you have a goodground to and you can adjust your bass level and all that right on the amp and the radio
