Default How to modify front speaker grill

If you have clearance issues with using the stock front speaker grills, is there any chance of modifying the grills to get them to fit? I'm looking through posts and while I see a lot of people cutting the stock back baskets, I dont see anyone who's cut the grills. Just wondering before I waste a bunch of time attempting and destroying my grills.

Just install the speakers without the stock baskets. You may need to make a set of speakers rings of 1/4" MDF to space them out so the magnet doesn't hit the glass.

Attaching the speaker to the actual door is the best install location. Having them attached to the door panel just creates rattles.

Say what????

A speaker needs to be mounted to mass, the more mass the better, a plastic door panel has very little mass compared to the door itself.

Also, you are going to get rattle no matter where speaker is mounted, but much less when speaker is mounted to mass.

Ideally you replace the stock plastic speaker housings with custom MDF housings, [that adds mass] it also allows you to get the mounting depth you need.

And yes, the grills, [inside of door panel] can be modified a bit. to give you more mounting height. 94

Ended up mounting the supplied spacer ring to the door panel, and the speaker to the spacer ring, then dremeled a lot of the useless plastic on the inner face of the grille. Fits and works well. Not hearing any rattles, then again, I'm just happy upgrading from the 14 year old paper stock speakers.

These were for a set of Alpine 6.5" component speakers SPS-610C
