b18a1 intermediate shaft/cv axles problem
i have a 88 crx si and i'm in the process of doing a b18b1 swap with a b18a1 trans. the transmission came from a 90 integra that has a b18a1 in it. Recently i ordered 90-93 integra axles for my car but while i was in the process of installing the driverside and for some weird reason it wouldnt fit into place. Has anybody ran into the same problem and if so how did you fix it?

Do you have a picture of the what the dust ring looks like? Also how difficult is it to remove?

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: b18a1 intermediate shaft/cv axles problem
Screwdriver removes it (easy to pry out). It's a metal ring on the back side of the knuckle - on the hub area...
PS - Helps to search.

Re: b18a1 intermediate shaft/cv axles problem
I've looked over everything on the front hub on the car and i've come to a decision that i'm not sure it's a si hub. I['m gonna contact the previous owner and see if he switched them on another crx.

This is about as far as the axle will go into the hub.

Re: b18a1 intermediate shaft/cv axles problem
Well after cleaning off the hub and axle splines and counting all of the splines i found out that the splines on the crx hub is 23 and the spines on the axle is 26 . Now i'm at a major stand still. Would anybody know what i should do next to fix this problem?

Re: b18a1 intermediate shaft/cv axles problem
im not sure if the 88 si hubs are any different.... but it seems to me is that you have a Hf hub. HF hubs are smaller than the DX/SI. which is causing the problem.
Maybe the 88 SI are different?????
I have a 89 crx si and b series axle fits no problem.
Are you sure it is an SI? you would be surprise at how many ppl sell their crx/civic trying to pass it on as a SI to get that extra cash.

Re: b18a1 intermediate shaft/cv axles problem
i've never used 90-93 integra hubs but i have read that it works. BUT it also makes the car have positive camber unless you have the car lowered then you would have nothing to worry about. Just get an alignment and it should be good.
What made you think your 88 crx was an SI? do you have a original sunroof? D16A6 engine? there is also the OEM rear sway bar. Any pics of the car? I'd like to see.

'88 CRX front hubs are identical and are like the HF hubs. Regardless of model. They also ALL have rear drums, where the 89-91 CRX Si has rear discs.
Your CRX would only be an Si if it has a factory sunroof.
Any CRX/Civic hubs will work, find you some 26 spline ones at a pull-a-part or something. DA ones work but are iffy/need something to install them, same with EG/EJ hubs but you REALLY need to search for a how to if you go with those, I know nothing about that.
1989-1991 CRX DX/Si hubs should work, 89-91 Civic DX/Si/LX/EX hubs should work.

Re: b18a1 intermediate shaft/cv axles problem
The car does have factory sunroof. I think the previous owner swapped the hubs just to use on another car. The only crx around where I live is at a salvage yard in 3 town and it's an 88 si. But there are 2 da 90 integras there. Im gonna have to do alot of research to see if it could work.

The 90 teggy knuckles will work to get the swap done for you and if you are not lowered you can get adjustable ball joint for the top to adjust your camber.

Re: b18a1 intermediate shaft/cv axles problem
If 90's integra knuckles is the only thing that I need to make everything work how much camber would it be off by? The front springs one the car have been cut. The old owner wanted to do the rice way instead of buying coil overs or drop srpings

DA (90-93) integra knuckles are a great upgrade. You should grab the 4040 prop valve, master cylinder and rear disc brakes while you're at it. The camber is not a big factor, I'm lowered just a little and the alignment was in spec.
