Re: Lower timing cover tensioning nut - rubber washer - stupid question

I placed an extra washer under the adjusting nut and that helped create enough clearance between the nut and timing cover to slip the rubber washer over the nut.

Lower timing cover tensioning nut - rubber washer - stupid question

Putting things back together after a timing belt job on a 6th gen Accord I4 and after installing the lower timing cover, I'm trying to slip the rubber washer over the tension adjusting nut. There...

Re: How to evacuate and recharge your R134a a/c system.

Thanks for the write-up.

I need to do something about my AC (6th gen Accord). It cycles on and off, and even when on, it's not very cold. Sometimes makes a hissing noise (heard inside the car)...

Scissor jack and jack stands

I have a floor jack, but need to jack up the car in a place where I won't have my floor jack. I don't trust the scissor jack enough to get underneath the car, so I want to use my jack stands.

Re: Wiring a socket and usb charger

Where did you mount the charger? Did you hard mount, or just use the velcro? I found the adhesive they used with the velcro to be very cheap and it came right off.

I'll check the wire gauge later,...

Re: Wiring a socket and usb charger

OK, I had to postpone this little project, but I'm coming back around to it.

1. Since the charger is rated for 20A, perhaps I should connect it to circuit other than the 12V cigarette lighter plug...

Re: Wiper blade housing - does this ever need replacing?

I got a good deal on some Bosch Icons, so I'll give those a shot and then just get inserts as needed going forward.

Re: Wiper blade housing - does this ever need replacing?

Yes.

First time car owner. Talked to a guy at Autozone, he was saying that generic inserts aren't a great idea because if anything goes wrong with those, a moving blade housing will scratch the...

Re: WHICH MODEL ACCORD IS BEST BANG FOR BUCK FROM 96-2000?

You should be able to find a 6th gen ('98-'02) Accord manual in your price range pretty easily. I bought an '01 EX coupe MT in your price range. Seems like there aren't a lot of manual coupes on the...

Wiper blade housing - does this ever need replacing?

Does wiper blade housing wear down such that it needs to be replaced? Or can I pretty much go the life of the car with the original housing and just change the rubber blade itself?

Re: Wiring a socket and usb charger

I looked up the Magnadyne instructions. They say to connect it to a fused 20A source, so yeah, what you're saying as well.

Does that mean I'll need to connect it to the circuit board rather than...

Re: Wiring a socket and usb charger

I just realized I don't even need a female socket. I can just cut the plug off this charger unit.

Re: How much did I save by performing some basic maintenance?

Thanks. Let's say $35 for the oil since I used Castrol GTX and Purolator filter, $25 for the tranny oil, and $80 for the plugs. That's $140, which pretty much pays for the floor jack and jack stands....

How much did I save by performing some basic maintenance?

I recently changed spark plugs, oil and manual trans fluid. What does the labor charge run on these tasks?

I'm trying to justify the investment I made in tools! :o

I'm hard pressed to describe it. I'll have to focus on it next time. Funny thing is I only noticed it when parking the car if I left the engine running while gathering stuff from the car. I didn't...

Re: Fumes entering interior when stopped

Hmmm must be something else then. I've put on a few hundred miles since doing the oil, MTF and spark plugs. As far as what spilled, just used motor oil and used MTF - the stuff hit some parts when it...

Changed manual tranny fluid, concerned I didn't put enough in

I filled the transmission with MTF while the car was level - poured in 2 full quarts (2.0 qts is the spec for this car). Then I had to jack it back up to remove the tube and put in the fill plug....

Re: Heating and bending a bent splash shield

Thanks. It worked pretty well. Once I got underneath the car, it turned out the bent area wasn't as big as it looks from a front view (as in the pic), so I decided to try and bend it back in place...

Re: Heating and bending a bent splash shield

Thanks! This will be my project after turkey.

Not sure I follow where to apply heat. If I flip the shield so the bent area is facing up, should I heat it from the side that normally faces the road...
