Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

Good advise. Thanks.

The no crank has not happened since the battery was replaced.

The battery guy thought a bad battery would explain it. Said he had seen batteries that were about to fail act...

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

It had a crack in the metal where it attached to the battery. I happened to notice it and replaced it as a precaution

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

Replaced that a few years ago. (The engine used to die while driving down the highway).

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

It looks fine. All the ground wires were replaced on the engine about 5 years ago due to another unrelated issue.

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

What is odd that the car would not start so I disconnected the positive terminal of the battery, waited 30 seconds, and reconnected it. The car started.

This was before I had the battery tested...

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

All of a sudden today the car would not start again. I waited a few minutes and the car started fine.

Had the battery tested and it tested bad. Apparently the battery was marginal and that...

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

I want to thank everyone for their help.

I've probably driven 400 miles and started and restarted the car 50 times. The starting issue has not repeated.

I checked the ground cables anyway and...

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

No, when it would not start, it never cranked.

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

As I said above, the grommet on the clutch was fixed months ago by me.

The P0420 code was on for about a week prior to the incident. I tried the catalytic cleaner fluid to no avail and had just...

Re: No crank, no start......but then starts later

Yes, I mean the grommet on the clutch pedal. That was fixed by me months ago. The grommet is still in place. I stuck my finger up there to make sure.

No crank, no start......but then starts later

98 Civic DX Manual

It wouldn't start or crank. I could hear a low humming noise which I think is the fuel pump. No clicking, and battery ok.

I came back a couple of hours later and it started...

Re: 98 Civic DX Heater Blower Motor not running.

With it removed, it's working intermittently. It'll kick off by manually turning the fan, so I'm assuming it's about to fail altogether so I ordered a new one.

Re: 98 Civic DX stalls while driving

It was the Ignition Control Switch.

Re: 98 Honda Civic DX losing power

Well, the cable grounds helped, but later it turned out to be a faulty Ignition Control Switch.

98 Civic DX Heater Blower Motor not running.

My heater blower stopped in my 98 Civic.

Just before it failed completely, 1, and 2 switches had stopped working, and only 3 and 4 worked.

I checked both the 40A fuse in the engine, and the 7.5...

98 Civic DX stalls while driving

My Civic intermittently stalls without warning while driving. I can immediately restart the engine. No check or warning lights appear on the dash. It throws no codes. The A/C and radio continue to...

Re: 98 Honda Civic DX losing power

A mechanic determined that the problem was the ground cable. I had them replaced, and so far the car has not had the symptoms again.

Re: 98 Honda Civic DX losing power

Interesting but I never touch the key. I downshift because the car is in motion but the power just comes back by itself after a few seconds.

Re: 98 Honda Civic DX losing power

Thanks for you reply. The battery is about a year old, but I am going to have it tested anyway.

Wouldn't the alternator fail all at once? There are no issues with starting the car. This problem...

98 Honda Civic DX losing power

My 1998 Civic DX 5 Speed Manual is losing power. This is happening only occasionally and is inconsistent and unpredictable. All the gauges drop to zero and the accelerator does not respond. It does...
