Well, it is for sure a 98 EX. What is the difference between an EJ7 and EJ8? And can I find out by sticker? I'm almost positive its EJ7.

If you don't have money for a clutch or clutch parts at the moment, you can shift without the clutch to prolong it's lifespan.

1st gear > accelerate > pop into neutral > let revs fall to 2nd gear...

sounds like ignition system problem. If you don't have a vacuum leak, I would think it's your ICM. Does it just hesitate when you put a lot of load on the engine? or can you ease on up in 1st gear...

Well, test it first. Check for spark, if you don't have spark it is most likely the ICM. I had one go bad in both d16y8's that I have owned. No need replacing it if you know it isn't the problem. You...
