Help!!!! civic stalled while driving
Hey all, well i was driving home from work last nite and was jus crusing when all of a sudden the car jus started jerking and if i tried to accelerate and wouldnt do anything and jus died in the middle of the road.......i tried cranking it but the engine wouldnt start.......my civic is a 00 ex coupe d16y8 jus bolt ons, so i took off my distributor cap(because i have a msd sci box) thinking maybe a wire was lose so i kinda fiddled with it and then it started again but soon died out or surged/jerked as i was trying to go home.....any ideas guys?

Re: Help!!!! civic stalled while driving
the parts stores here in hawaii say they cant test icms, anyway i can check or should i jus buy a new one, i read also that oem aftermarket units have crappy icms that tend to overheat or crap out because the heat from the engine, is that confirmed?

Well, test it first. Check for spark, if you don't have spark it is most likely the ICM. I had one go bad in both d16y8's that I have owned. No need replacing it if you know it isn't the problem. You should just go with a whole OEM distributor...
If it started sputtering like farting before it died, then its probably your ICM. If you took off from a dead stop did it sputter before? Sometimes they will do this before they go bad.
Go to the parts store, have them test it, if the ICM is dead, ditch your after market distributor and go stock.

Since the car jerked I say it Ignition related. I would check Spark, Dizzy, wire, ect...
