It is, kinda
You will need a EX ecu to run the ex engine, since the hx is a lean burn vtec the ex engine might not respond properly. when you swap out an ecu you need to go to a dealer to reflash it...

I did the conversion about a year ago, my auto trans was giving out and came across a local part out on the whole car and got everything complete so it was not a big deal, much more fun to drive...

You can use the EX AT harness, you will have left over sensors hanging from what goes into the auto trans and one at the ecu, just tape them up or snip them off
You can get a EX MT ecu and be done,...

the ex has vtec, the lx does not, you are running a none vtec ecu with the vtec motor, all this is doing is giving you a CEL and of course no vtec. maybe you can get a VAFC to control the vtec but...

yea as said before, your ecu got fried due to the alternator bracket bolt coming loose, same thing happen to me right after i did my AT to MT swap, and i thought it was related to the trans swap, 50...

well the 2001+ have a chipped key and are not as easy to steal, plus not many people do work on the 7thgens so it doesnt attract much attention as say the eg ek em1 etc.
