alternator has nothing to do with an eratic speedo, it is definitely the SPEED SENSOR located on the transmission (it is located near the FIREWALL). Normally CHECK ENGINE will appear if this sensor ...

an oil soaked spark plug will definitely affect getting your engine started & performance. This will give you a CEL code regarding "A MISFIRE". Change all your spark plugs & dont forget to change...

try to check the distributor rotor if its is in the right firing order, after that check the MAP sensor, normally if its not working properly its not giving the proper value to the ECU & this thing...
