Re: beader rollers? what do you use/have?

Yeah for limited qty the HD beadform is hard to beat. Does well on .065" ss as well.

Re: Where did you learn to weld?

I learned to stick weld as a kid farming, didn't get into wire feed until high school, did different flux core processes as jobs for structural transport tractor chassis for a while, got into tig...

Re: Industrial Plasma Tables

I understand what nesting software is and why you need it, I do the same thing but on machining centers all day. OneCNC has a nesting module or upgrade that would be less than half the cost and...

Re: Industrial Plasma Tables

Adam, don't pay 15k for nesting software, that is crazy for 2d software. Its been a while since I have set up any local shops with burning tables but I used OneCNC in the past I believe, call...

Re: Recent exhaust work

I'm with you on .045" zip cuts, you can do amazing stuff with them if you have a steady hand. My only complaint is the mess.

What you have is NOT a cold saw, it is a dry cut saw, they are...

Re: Starting my own fab shop!

That is an employee, not a business partner. Greed and lack of communication are the two biggest issues with partnerships, regardless of how much you trust them or like them before you jump in bed.

Re: Milling Machine Value

$500 is a fair price, $1000 is high but if someone forks it out you came out ahead.

Re: Starting my own fab shop!

I honestly don't know how any fab shop is going to survive serving VW/Audi owners. I wish you the best man, ditch the cheap bastards ASAP if you want to stick with this.

And I agree with Adam,...

Re: Shop floor coatings?

I Used Benjamin Moore, we did the prep right, so no chips or anything to deal with however it stains very easily. If I were to do it over I would use a concrete stain and not an epoxy.

Re: Recent exhaust work

Cold saws are available with 9"-48" blades. 10-14" would be your common "fab shop" sizes.

Cold saws are drastically different from cut off/chop saws. Your average 14" cold saw will
-weigh over...

Re: First cage done by me 10 point

Its weak because you have a lot of unsupported bends and the nodes don't meet together to transfer energy.

Re: Recent exhaust work

Yeah that is a dry cut, not a cold saw. Now I understand why you said it was so noisy, and more expensive per cut than a band saw.

Cold saws are a completely different animal.

Re: First cage done by me 10 point

Hater? No, you built a week and poorly designed cage. You need to get some 1" tube gussets/supports in there.

Re: Recent exhaust work

I don't really like the 2 teeth thing, because it doesn't really equate to anything. Metal cutting is all based on SFM.

RPM = (3.82 x SFM) / Dia
Feed = RPM x Chip per tooth x No of Teeth

Re: First cage done by me 10 point

What the hell were you thinking when you put that bend on the top of your forward bars where they tie into the hoop:hammer:

The purpose of having multiple bars in a roll cage is to transfer energy...

Re: Recent exhaust work

Should be cake, but you need to be running over 200 teeth even for .065".
Cold saws actually have lower cost per cut than bandsaws.

Re: who sells 2.5" v-band falnges and clamps?

I've been using the sanitary clamps for years. More reliable (zero failures), and WAAAYYYY faster for fitup if you are doing custom fab.
