Not necessary to bleed the brakes, but it is advised. You can buy a bleed kit for not much money and get a friend to help push the pedal while you work the wrench to get fluid out on the downstroke...

Ask the folks in the road race and auto-X forum what they think about EBC brake pads. Also ask them about X-drilled rotors for even more fun. Stock brake lines are rubber and perfectly adequate.
