Re: Ouch! How bad of a fix will this be??

I'm not body expert by any stretch, but that looks pretty bad. The problem is that the panel is not just bolt-on/bolt-off, that panel (quarter panel) is part of the unibody and will need to be cut...

Re: Has anyone used this for cutting sch 10?

My only concern would be how to clamp in elbows. You'd need to fabricate or purchase a good jig.

Re: Sudden discoloration issue on stainless with Diversion 180

I agree, a leak anywhere between the bottle and the torch tip can cause what you are describing. Even though the line is pressurized, air gets sucked into the line by the passing gas. Start by...

Re: Any welding experts in here?

My first thought when I read 5/8" was "send that out". No entry level machine, even 220v will do that correctly. You want some big fat "caulking" welds for material that thick, and that takes some...

Re: Starting my own fab shop!

Hey guys, I thought I'd post an update. I hate to bump such an old thread, but I really feel like this one needs an ending. All of you who followed and commented in this thread deserve that much.

Re: Turbo mani is spiking. Trying to understand why... Help

I've seen this with my own eyes. It sounds like he has a good setup and a good head. I did a B18C once with a GT35 and it was making 20+ psi with the gate completely off. I shat my pants when I saw...

Re: New welder, old problems are back

I don't think the tungsten is to blame. The difference between each one is not noticeable enough that a beginner will find one better than the other.

If the breaker keeps popping it means either...

Re: Torch parts

If the number ends in 17, likely they are all the same. Manufacturers tend to stick to standards. Parts for #17 torch should all work.

Ignore the highlighted sections.

You need :

1x 54N63 - Insulator
1x 45V64 - Large gas lens (3/32") (or 45V116 for 1/16" electrode)

Re: 6-1 Merge collector angle?

It's the same as doing a 4-1, except the middle pieces are cut at 180°, then the inside cut.

The actually angle of the cut is up to you, but the index takes a bit of practice. To get a 90° index...

Re: need an opinion n how to approach a situation

But it's also on one runner as opposed to being between two. Either way, not much you can do now.

Re: need an opinion n how to approach a situation

Looking at the pic again, you have a pretty long collector, so you may be able to get away with that.

Re: need an opinion n how to approach a situation

The reason the low gate causes boost creep is that you have 3 runners basically shooting right into the turbo. Placing it higher favors dumping from all 4 cyls, where having it low like that favors...

So well said. I wish I could communicate my thoughts this effectively.

My threads got locked up on many forums in the past and I simply bought an advertising account. I looked into it for this...

Re: need an opinion n how to approach a situation

I hate to say it but that manifold is going to give you a lot of problems for sure.

Number one problem will be boost creep, the new wastegate hole is quite low on the collector and this will...

Re: everlast powertig 250

To start, I really hate to take sides or say anything negative about others work or products. Also, I am not biased towards any company, but there is one thing that pisses me off, and it's cheap...

Re: Fabricator, and how to become one ?

Pay varies A LOT. Here in Quebec, they want you to weld stuff for air craft, and have all kinds of credentials and practically a degree in metallurgy, and offer $13/h.

Welders do not make good...

Re: found this on the net on making up a turbo manifold

Same for me, I try to avoid welding complete runners off the assembly because of the movement that occurs. However, the better your assembly is, the less movement there is.

As of lately, it works...

Re: whats your favorite stainless filler rod?

When I say it "covers more ground", I just mean that you can weld 303, 304 and 316 with it. I can't really detect a difference in the way it welds compared to 308 honestly. 309L you can tell the...

All kinds of amazing work in here! Love the 321 stuff. The STI kit looks labour intensive. Are you planning on making them one by one? How much time would you say it takes to do a full system from...

Re: whats your favorite stainless filler rod?

Like everyone mentioned, you need to use the filler that the job calls for.

I have noticed that 309L tends to come out shinier on hot welds.

For 304 pipe, I use 316L. I used to use 308 but feel...
