Zoom Zoom Live
Has anyone been to one of these yet? I am going the 30th in Chicago. If anyone has gone, what are the prizes they talk about on the web for being fastest fo the hour or faster than average? Is anyone going to the chicago one? I will be in the 10:15 registering group and hope to be fast time of the hour. Last year at the Revitup I was 7th quick overall on my first run and I was only 19 at the time with a lot less seat time.

Re: Zoom Zoom Live (Nishant)
you can win a bose stereo if you get closest to the time on the match time event. I was .017 off the time you were supposed to match, but somebody beat me by getting .008. Then if you get 125 out of 150 points you get bose headphones.

I will be in the School of zoom tent where all the RX8's are. I am one of the "pro drivers" on the tour, so stop by and say hi!

Did you do the school of zoom to drive the RX8's? If so, we may have met!
These events are fun and you really cant beat the price!

yeah i drove the school of zoom twice. I love the rx8's, but hate the traction control in them.
My first instructor just told me "thanks for waking me up". The second instructor who raced formula mazdas told me the traction control saved me on most of the corners. Either one of those you?

Nope. Not me then.
The traction control is actually pretty good in them for normal people which is what the system was designed for I'm sure.
When you turn it off, the car really comes alive. But only the Pro drivers are allowed to do that thank god. Or we would be picking up cones a lot more than we are already!

Oh yeah, I wouldn't doubt that it saved you big time. Good thing it was pointed out to you too, just in case you didn't realized it. It's not like you have any idea of what you are doing. Did you thank your instructor for the tips and also the TC every time it saved your butt out there? lol
You said there was that time matching competition. That sounds hard, since the goal is not really to go as fast as you can. Seems luck can play a big factor in this competition. I’d have been there for sure if we didn’t have the autox points event the same day. Prizes, or no prizes imo what Mazda is doing with these events is very nice.

I at first started to explain to him since TC was working I had to alter the way I was driving the car to go fast, but that was useless, so I gave up and walked away. I was able to put down FTD in the miatas, although still 0.8 seconds behind their pro driver. I wanted to match it, but on my best run I threw a rod in the miata and lost some power comming out of the final 2 turns. Not sure if I would have gone faster or not, but it didnt seem to help.
With the match time I used a stopwatch and worked pretty good. Just haul *** around until the last turn, stop, watch clock, and go accordingly. Worked for me to get within .017.
Luck is a pretty big factor though. My dad beat me by a lot of points and he's only auto-xed once before. Only because on the 3rd challenge I got 5 points for just trying. You have to keep golf ***** in a bucket on the hood and not let them fly out while driving a course. Its pretty hard to do.

Just to be fair to whoever it is. You would be very surprised how many people we get that say "I am a pro buddy"...
I had one jack *** that thought he knew everything because he was a NASA instructor or so he said. We specifically tell them to stay in 2nd because there is no point to go to 1st. He shifted anyway, and I told him not to do it anyone more because there was not point. He did it again, and well, lets just say he did not drive the RX8 again!
Most of the people out at the events are generally interested in the cars, and just want to have fun. Jackasses like that are the ones we are supposed to look out for who have just come to tear up the cars.

thats why i didn't mention anything at all about my background. I don't claim to know everything. I asked him to give me advice even.
edit: And your if the company that ran zoomzoomlive didn't want people to come thrash their cars don't market it as a competition.

Oh, I was not picking on you at all. I think you fit in with all the others that are there to have fun.
You and I both know there is a big difference between coming to tear up the cars, and coming to drive quick! That is just what I was trying to imply.
In Dallas, we through a guy out because on the fastest part of the course he put the clutch in, redlined it, and dumped the clutch while turning sideways to try and do a 360!
Those are the people we look for.

Awww.... Take the fun out of it why don't ya. "My knee hit it mid corner... oops!". The DSC is very intrusive. I know... I race one. I have a sticker that reminds me to shut it off before every run. :D
Looking forward to DC. (I'm not really going to DC... but I'm not telling ya I'm going to Jersey instead.... nope.. not at all).
