Where do I start?
I just joined NASA and bought a membership. I really want to get into time attack and i'm not really sure where to start to get moving in the right direction. I've already tried figuring this out but there are so many different courses and classes I literally don't even know where to begin with it. Could someone please point me in the right direction or explain to me how this works? Do I apply for a license now? Do the HPDE course's first? or is there a different course I should start with? From what I've read it seems like you need to do a course before a license can even be applied for, but I could be wrong. Any positive input would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Where do I start?
If you are still in Maryland, you'll probably be running mostly in the Mid Atlantic and North East with NASA. your closest track will be Summit Point. Depending on where you are in MD, you might be close to the Autox areas... Aberdeen-ish area or near Fedex Field (if they still autox there).
a good place to start will be the very basics. tires, brake pads, brake fluid. thats all you will need to get out in any of the beginner groups. You'll want to go over the car and nut and bolt check also. once you figure out this is really for you... you can worry about "upgrades."
since you want to go with "time attack"... it really is best to start slowly. time attack and Nasa TT have rules and points, you want to make sure you don't buy unusable parts.

I'll be at the April 15-17 Summit Point event for NASA MA.

Re: Where do I start?
So I could run Auto X events with out any sort of competition license? Would I just sign up and go run it? Sorry if some of these questions seem out of the air, i'm completely new to this. I'm use to the drag racing scene. Just build it, take it to the track, and run it lol.

you do want to start in the beginner group (HPDE 1). you'll have an instructor to help teach you the line of the track AND certain car control skills. They will also make sure you are aware of your surroundings and not getting tunnel vision.

Re: Where do I start?
Well, i'm debating on either using my 07 SI coupe which is my current DD, or picking up something like a EG, DC, DA, or CRX shell, throwing it together and using that. Not really too sure yet tbh. I have a 91 Talon TSI AWD shell im actually trying to trade for one now. I've thought about also maybe throwing the Talon together and using it, but i'm a honda guy at heart so yea lol.

Go for the HPDE. Great way to learn how to drive. Listen to feed back and absorb everything. Ask questions too. I found it helpful to work as a volunteer with NASA. It helped with understanding what not to do by other peoples mistakes. Working as a corner flagger help with awareness. Things happen very fast. The NASA family is great.
