15.12 Tow Eyes
It is required that all race vehicles, except open-wheel (formula) cars, have at least two
(2) easily accessible (and usable) tow eyes, or tow points; one (1) in front and one (1) in
back. They must not protrude dangerously from the car or require manipulation of the
bodywork and/or panels to access the tow eyes. They must be strong enough to
support the weight of the car. If tow eyes or tow points are not available the towing
crew will hook onto other things that may cause damage to the driver’s car. The tow
crew and NASA will not be held liable for any damage. Note- “spec built” cars must
comply with this rule (e.g. FFR)
i do race with nasa and i don't think i have seen many cars in our reigon or the surrounding reigons that comply to that. if this was, however, the case on the west coast and everyone was in compliance, then there should be no problem finding examples.

Re: Tow strap attachment
my car has a soft tow hook, and has been lifted off of its front wheels with it.
My setup is similar to RJ.'s...
although IMO that wording was put in place to make sure that the straps are strong enough. IE if you get berried hub deep in a sand trap or mud...

Re: Tow strap attachment
So does anyone have a definite answer for where to put a tow-point to where the car can support the weight of the vehicle?

Re: Tow strap attachment
The issue that I've run into with my two current cars is that back in the olden days the cars did not have 5mph bumpers on them, both my Civic and my CRX have a bumper cover and a support structure that holds it in place. You can put a tow hook down on the bottom to the factory location however running a splitter or air dam then becomes an issue as you have to cut holes in it. Mounting to the bumper beam is not an option as the car does not have one. Over the winter I'll be looking into an alternat mounting method that will give the front end the needed support and allow the car to be safely towed. I have a couple ideas kickin around in my head in addition to just putting a bumper from an 86 CRX on my car and a bumper from an 86-87 Civic on Stephanie's car.
