Recommended oil for high rpms?
After months of working at it I finally have my dirt track car ready to race this Saturday night.
It's a half mile paper clip shapes track and the race is 10 laps plus 4 laps heat race.
B16 powered gutted hatch
What would be a good brand and thickness of engine oil
Considering I'll be turning high rpms the entire race
And how often do you guys suggest changing the oil?

Lot of feedback on oil here:

Personally, I'm a fan of Rotella T-6. It's a good oil, cheap, easily accessible, etc. Yes, there are absolutely better oils out there but they're also considerably more $$, not available locally, and are likely overkill as long as you stay on top of your oil changes.

Since you're doing pretty short races, I'd expect that you'd only need to do oil changes a couple times per year. I've always changed my oil every ~4 hours on track and suspect that's on the conservative side of things.

also a longtime t6 synthetic fan. Zinc content for older honda cams is good, stable past 300° f, thins out less (maintains pressure quite well hot), and can hold a lot of crap in it, because its formulated for diesels, and still do its job

Every weekend as cautionary? Ever had an analysis done? I'm using the same oil in a similar engine. Always curious about this kind of stuff. Was planning on an every 2 event change interval (3-4 sessions/day/2 days).

Re: Recommended oil for high rpms?
For people using the Shell Rotella - I know that there is T6 (5w-40) and it is marked as being full synthetic, and there is also T5 (10w-30) with it being a synthetic blend. It sounds like most people on H-T use the T6 instead of the T5. Is that because of the T6 being full synthetic, different additives, or ?? I've been using Redline 15W-40, and will be trying Shell Rotella for my next oil change - I've got a B18C type R with rev limiter set to 8500rpm with ext oil cooler. - Jim

Re: Recommended oil for high rpms?
Oil temps in B-series VTEC engines is pretty astronomical. For track days or racing, I don't see a problem changing it after each weekend (and the accompanying street miles). One of the advantages of a cheap oil is that it's cheap.

Re: Recommended oil for high rpms?
I live in a small town outside eureka ca and pretty much have been driving around town doing pulls on the freeway and back roads. I was using mobile 1 and reading a lot about how it breaks down fast in a turbo application. what I disliked the most about it was when the car was hot enough for the fan to come on,, oil pressure would go from its normal 20psi at idle to around 13 or 14. I know 10psi is 'enough but it led me to experiment with other oil. I just drained the rotella t6 and replaced with penzoil ultra platinum 5w30, when hot I'm at 22psi and so far it seems good.

Sadly, I don't get my car to the track nearly as much as I'd like but I generally change the oil every other track day or so. I've been using Mobil 1 5w30.

Re: Recommended oil for high rpms?
I was using that as well however after warm, at a stop light it would drop oil psi uncomfortably low. 12psi. with rotella t6 it maintained 23 psi-26psi and the new penzoil ultra platinum 5w30 im running maintaining 18-20psi oil pressure at idle..
